This paper takes the thesis “Characteristics and fusion of Buddhist meditation and chanting”, First focuses on the practice of meditation (śamatha and Vipaśyanā) as a characteristic of Buddhist meditation, and briefly explains the difficult pathway of practice of high-ranking people I looked. by reviewing the contents of sutras and treatises. Then, we reviewed the contents of scriptures and treatises related to chanting Buddha's name(buddhānusmṛti) and considered the characteristics of chanting Buddha's name as an easy pathway to practice for ordinary people. Lastly, by examining the content of Buddhist meditation, through the fusion of Buddhist meditation and the practice of chanting Buddha's name, and the content of the non-dual of meditation and chanting Buddha's name, the object to be contemplated in meditation and chanting Buddha's name, we examine the content of complementary fusion in a mutual relationship to form śamatha Although the process of chanting and Vipaśyanā is different, it was intended to prove that it meets the purpose of meditation through the process of samādhi.

본 논문은 “불교명상과 염불의 특성과 융합”을 논제로 삼아서, 먼저 불교명상의 특성으로 지관(止觀)의 수행에 중점을 두고 경전과 논서의 내용을 검토하여 간략히 상근기의 난행도를 살펴보았다. 그런 다음에 염불신행의 특성으로 염불과 관련된 경전과 논서의 내용을 검토해서 염불의 특성을 모든 근기를 섭수한 지관수행임을 고찰하였다. 끝으로 불교명상과 염불신행의 융합으로 불교의 명상인 지관의 내용과 염불에서 관상할 대상이 불이(不二)한 내용임을 살펴서 상호관계 속에 상보적으로 융합하는 내용을 검토해서 지관과 염불이 과정은 달라도 삼매의 과정을 거쳐서 구경의 목적에 부합함을 입증하고자 하였다.
