The symbolic animal of Vietnam is the dragon. Although it is not officially stipulated in the constitution, the Vietnamese people believe that their ancestors come from the dragon god, regard the dragon as a spirit creature, and call themselves ‘descendants of the dragon.’ Dragons often appear in Vietnamese literary works, and they also appear in the founding myth of Vietnam's first kingdom. This study examined dragons as mysterious and strange deities through various myths and legends. The dragon that appears here has powers that humans cannot possess, and while it is changeable, it is also friendly and always trustworthy like a father. I think that through the appearance of these dragons, we will not only be able to understand Vietnamese oral literature more deeply, but also get a glimpse into the beliefs, worldview, and traditional culture of the Vietnamese people.

베트남의 상징 동물은 용이다. 용은 베트남의 구비문학에 자주 등장하며, 베트 남 첫 왕국의 건국신화에서도 비중 있는 존재로 그려진다. 본 연구는 ｢태곳적｣, ｢홍방씨전｣, ｢물고기의 정령(漁精傳)｣, ｢여우의 정령(狐精傳)｣, ｢나무의 정령 (木精傳)｣, ｢동천왕｣등의 신화들과 ｢그엄(劍) 호수 이야기｣전설 등을 통해 용이 신비롭고 기이한 신격 이미지로 형상화된 양상을 고찰하였다. 베트남 구비문학에서 용은 크게 두 가지의 성격으로 그려진다. 첫째, 공동체의 조상신으로서의 용이다. 둘째, 수호신으로서의 용이다. 수호신으로서의 용은 악귀로부터 백성을 보호하는 한편, 외침으로부터 백성을 보호하는 역할을 한다. 이러한 용의 형상은 베트남 사람들의 신앙과 세계관, 전통문화를 이해하는 키워드가 될 것이다.
