The controversy over the authenticity of the Korea Dynasty metal type, or 'Jeungdoga-type', which was sparked by the disclosure by bibliologgraphy's Professor Nam Kwon-Heui on September 1st, 2010, is still ongoing despite the Cultural Heritage Administration's decision to 'reject' the designation of Jeungdoga-type as a national cultural property on April 13th, 2017. It continues until. The purpose of this study is to identify controversial issues through a comprehensive literature review related to the authenticity of Jeungdoga-type and to suggest future research directions based on reflections on the process of designating Jeungdoga-type treasures. As a result of the literature review, the issues in the decision to reject Jeungdoga-type were font comparison, radiocarbon dating, unclear source and acquisition history, and the Cultural Heritage Committee's internal records that conflicted with the final opinion of the designated investigation team. In addition, it was confirmed that the discussion and verification process so far has been a series of failures marred by loss of procedural legitimacy and damage to neutrality, rather than a discussion to uncover the truth of ‘Jeungdoga-type’, which identifies the metal type of the origin of mankind. Based on this, future research directions are presented as follows. First, the authenticity of relics requires systematic analysis based on institutional mechanisms, and it is necessary to conduct interdisciplinary research not only in the bibliographic field but also at a multifaceted level. Second, research on theoretical models needs to be conducted first in the entire process from treasure application to designation. Third, it is believed that unified measurement and standards should be institutionally presented in the field of authenticity appraisal of relics, and measures to ensure reliability should also be prepared.

2010년 9월 1일 서지학자인 남권희 교수가 공개하며 촉발된 고려시대 금속활자 즉, ‘증도가자’ 진위 논란은 2017년 4월 13일 문화재청이 증도가자의 문화재 지정에 ‘부결’ 결정을 내렸음에도 현재까지 계속되고 있다. 본 연구는 포괄적 문헌 검토를 통해 증도가자 진위 관련 논란의 쟁점을 파악하 고, 증도가자 보물 지정 과정에 대한 소고(小考)를 바탕으로 향후 연구방향을 제시 하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 문헌 검토 결과 증도가자 부결 결정의 쟁점은 서체 비교, 방사성 탄소연대, 출처 와 소장 경위 불분명, 그리고 지정조사단의 최종 의견과 대치되는 문화재위원회 속 기록이었다. 아울러 그동안의 논의와 검증 과정은 인류 시원의 금속활자를 규명하 는 ‘증도가자’의 진실 규명을 위한 토론보다 절차적 정당성 상실 및 중립성 훼손 등 으로 얼룩진 파행의 연속이었음을 확인할 수 있었다. 이를 토대로 향후 연구방향을 제시하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 유물의 진위감정은 제도적 장치에 입각하여 체계적인 분석이 필요하며, 서지학계뿐 아니라 다각적인 차원에서 학제 간 연구로 진행할 필요가 있다. 둘째, 보물 신청에서부터 지정까지 일련의 과정에서 이론적 모형에 대한 연구가 선행되어야 한다. 셋째, 유물에 대한 진위감정과 관련하여 통일된 측정 및 기준이 제도적으로 제시되어야 하며, 신뢰성 을 확보할 방안도 마련되어야 한다고 판단된다.
