This study aims to explore the images elementary school students have regarding school spaces and times, based on the necessity of acknowledging the voices of elementary students as the primary recipients of education. To achieve this, the research targeted 150 elementary school students in Chuncheon City. Sentence completion and open-ended survey forms regarding the spaces within the school (classrooms, corridors, restrooms, cafeterias, playgrounds) and school times (morning activities time, class time, break times, lunchtime, dismissal time) were designed and administered offline. The survey results were interpreted inductively to highlight key themes, and the SPSS statistical program was used to analyze differences based on background variables. The findings revealed that elementary students attributed 3-4 conceptual meanings and 4 emotional meanings individually to school spaces and times, based on their experiences and thoughts. Furthermore, differences in meaning were observed in spaces such as restrooms, playgrounds, morning activities, class time, and dismissal time based on gender and grade level. Based on the outcomes of this research, it is evident that elementary students assign unique meanings to school spaces and times distinct from adults, emphasizing the necessity to listen to their perspectives. Additionally, given the presence of friends in all spaces and times for elementary students, there is a greater need to focus on and educate about their peer relationships within the educational context.

[연구목적] 본 연구는 초등학교에서 교육 주체인 초등학생의 목소리를 들어야 한다는 필요성을 바탕으로 초등학생이 인식하는 학교 공간과 시간에 대한 이미지를 알아보고자 하 였다. [연구방법] 이를 위해서 춘천시 초등학교 학생 150명을 대상으로, 초등학생이 인식하는 학교 공간(교실, 복도, 화장실, 급식실, 운동장)과 학교 시간(아침활동시간, 수업 시간, 쉬는 시간, 점심시간, 하교 시간)에 대한 문장완성형, 개방형 설문지를 제작하였으 며 오프라인으로 설문지를 투입하였다. 설문 결과는 귀납적으로 주제를 요목화하여 그 의미를 해석한 후 SPSS 통계프로그램을 활용하여 배경 변인에 따른 차이를 분 석하였다. [연구결과] 연구 결과, 초등학생은 자신의 경험과 생각에 따라 학교 공간과 시간에 각각 3-4 개의 정의적 의미와 4개의 정서적 의미를 부여하고 있었다. 또한 성별과 학년에 따라 화장실, 운동장, 아침활동시간, 수업 시간, 하교 시간에 그 의미에서 차이를 보였다. [결 론] 본 연구의 결과를 바탕으로 볼 때 초등학생은 성인과는 다른 자신들만의 의미를 학 교 공간과 시간에 부여하며 생활하고 있으며 이러한 초등학생의 목소리를 들으려는 노력이 필요하다. 또한, 초등학생의 모든 공간과 시간에는 친구가 존재하기에 초등 학생의 교우관계에 더욱 관심을 가지고 교육해야 할 필요성이 있다.
