This study examines whether shame mediates the association between attachment, rejection sensitivity, and mental health problems. A total of 729 college students conducted the online survey of the attachment, rejection sensitivity, external and internal shame, hospital anxiety-depression, and state-trait anger expression scale. The data analysis used Amos27 to conduct SEM. The findings of the study were as follows. The effect of attachment and mental health problems was fully mediated by shame was also verified in rejection sensitivity. The result of this study suggested that dealing with shame while intervening in mental health problems is important. In particular, people with high shame may attempt to under-report or cover up symptoms, which can negatively affect treatment outcomes. Based on the results of this study, we proposed that it is necessary to directly intervene with a focus on shame so that people with high shame can become open to treatment and obtain efficient treatment results, and introduced compassion-focused therapy as an intervention method. Finally, the limitations of this study and suggestions for future study were discussed.

본 연구는 애착 및 거부 민감성과 정신건강 문제와의 관계에서 수치심이 미치는 영향을 살펴 보고자 하였다. 연구 대상은 국내 대학생 729명이며, 이들에게 온라인을 통해 성인 애착 척 도, 거부 민감성 척도, 외적 및 내적 수치심 척도, 병원 불안-우울 척도, 상태-특성 분노 표현 척도에서 상태 척도를 사용하여 설문지를 실시하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS27과 Amos 27.0을 활용하여 각 변인에 대해 상관분석과 매개분석이 이루어졌다. 연구 결과, 수치심이 애착과 정 신건강 문제에 미치는 영향을 완전매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 수치심은 거부 민감성과 정신건강 문제에서도 수치심의 완전매개 효과가 검증되었다. 이러한 결과는 수치심이 높은 사람들은 자신의 증상을 불안, 우울, 분노로 은폐하거나 증상을 축소하여 보고할 수 있으므 로, 이들 증상 이면의 수치심을 직접 다루어 주는 것이 필요함을 시사한다. 마지막으로 수치 심에 대한 직접 개입 방안으로 자비중심치료를 소개하고, 본 연구의 제한점과 향후 연구를 위한 제언을 논의하였다.
