The purpose of this study is to logically analyze the U.S. extended deterrence policy on the Korean Peninsula by applying game theory. Accordingly, a three-party game model was created with North Korea as the Challenger, South Korea as the Protege, and the United States as the Defender. Considering the uncertainty of international relations, the equilibrium was analyzed under incomplete information where the player does not know the type and behavior of the other player. In particular, in order to focus on the analysis of the reliability of extended deterrence, the type of reliability in the alliance between Korea and the U.S. was set as incomplete information. As a result of the research model analysis, if pS and pU, which are the probability that Korea and the U.S. are alliance reliable types, meet certain conditions, four equilibria could exist: Deterrence 1 and Deterrence 2, Korea Attack 1, and Korea Attack 2. Based on this, the implications were drawn that strengthening conventional forces, possessing nuclear latency, deploying U.S. strategic assets, and promoting nuclear sharing plans could help strengthen extended deterrence.

본 연구의 목적은 미국의 한반도 확장억제의 신뢰성을 게임이론을 적용하여 논리적으로 분석하는 것이다. 이를 위해 도전국, 보호국, 피보호국 3개 국가로 구성된 확장억제 3인 게 임 모형을 한반도 핵 위기 상황에 대입하여 북한을 도전국, 미국을 보호국, 한국을 피보호 국으로 하는 게임 모형을 구성하였다. 국제관계의 불확실성을 고려하여 경기자가 상대방의 유형 및 행동을 알지 못하는 미비정보 하에서 균형을 분석하였으며, 특히 확장억제의 신뢰 성 분석을 위해 한국과 미국의 동맹 신뢰 유형을 서로 알지 못하는 미비정보로 하였다. 연 구모형 분석 결과 한국과 미국이 동맹 신뢰 유형일 확률인 pS와 pU가 특정 조건을 충족하는 경우 억제1 및 억제2, 한국 공격1 및 한국 공격2의 4가지 균형이 존재할 수 있음을 확인하 였다. 이를 바탕으로 재래식 전력 강화 및 핵잠재력의 보유, 미국의 전략자산 전개 및 핵 공유 방안 추진 등이 확장억제력 강화에 도움이 될 수 있다는 시사점을 도출하였다.
