This paper is an attempt to examine how elderly women are represented in the two works by analyzing Chiyo Uno's “Koufuku” and Yaeko Nogami's “Fue”. The representations of elderly women examined through Kazue of “Koufuku” and Tsune of “Fue”. are as follows. First, both protagonists in their old age have wartime experiences and memories, and those memories are commonly focused on “characters.” Second, it is depicted that 'establishing a relationship' is necessary as a condition for the happiness of elderly women. Third, it is a reference to the changes brought about in life by the transformation of the space and space called ‘Home’. The representation of the two elderly women, the main characters of the two works, suggests how important the life of elderly women was in Japanese society in the 1960s and 1970s, especially the “relationship” of the family community for elderly women. It was a time when women's liberation, such as feminism, and women's self–seeking winds began to blow strongly, but it was confirmed through the text that the desire of elderly women for the family community did not fade easily even in the face of the strong wind.

본 논문은 우노 지요의 「행복」 노가미 야에코의「피리」를 분석하여 두 작품에서 노년 여성이 어떻게 표상되고 있는가를 살피고자 하는 시도이다. 「행복」의 가즈에 와 「피리」의 쓰네를 통해 살핀 노년 여성의 표상은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 노년에 접어든 두 주인공은 모두 전시기의 경험과 기억을 갖고 있으며, 그 기억은 공통적으로 ‘인물’에 초점이 맞추어져 있다. 둘째, 노년 여성의 행복을 위한 조건으로서 ‘관계의 성립’이 필요한 것으로 그려 지고 있다. 두 인물 모두 타인과의 관계, 정확히 말하면 가족이라는 공동체 안에서 의 안정된 관계와 지위를 희구하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 셋째, ‘집’이라는 공간과 공간의 변형이 삶에 초래한 변화에 관한 언급이다. 가 즈에는 집을 11채나 지었다고 고백하며 집을 짓는 행위, 집의 공간을 배분하는 행 위가 자신의 삶의 변화와 직결되어 있음을 밝히고 있다. 두 작품의 주인공인 두 노년 여성 표상은 1960~70년대 일본사회에서 노년 여성 의 삶이 어떠했는지, 특히 노년 여성에게 있어 가족공동체의 ‘관계’라는 것이 얼마 나 중요한 의미를 차지했는지 시사한다. 페미니즘 등 여성 해방, 여성의 자아 찾기 바람이 거세게 불기 시작하던 시절이었으나, 거센 바람 앞에서도 가족공동체를 희 구하는 노년 여성의 바람은 쉬이 사그라지지 않았음을 본문을 통해 새삼 확인할 수 있었다.
