This paper considered Lee, Gyu-bo’s ｢Namhaengwolilgi｣ as a work with a geographical character and examined its aspects. ｢Namhaengwolilgi｣is a work that belongs to the essays on landscapes. However, it focuses on presenting information on tourist attractions rather than embodying the natural beauties. It can be seen as an ‘essay on landscapes with geographical characters.' The fact that essays on landscapes have a geographical character can be said to be one of the trends of the genre, and ｢Namhaengwolilgi｣ is a work that led this trend in the history of essays on landscapes of Korea. Meanwhile, ‘Gi’ and ‘Ji’ which are higher genres of essays on landscapes and geography, were used interchangeably because they shared the basic characteristic of ‘record of truth’. From this, we can see that ｢Namhaengwolilgi｣ can have geographical characters. The geographical characteristics of ｢Namhaengwolilgi｣ could be confirmed by first examining its contents. ｢Namhaengwolilgi｣ contains a wealth of information such as topography, vegetation, customs, religion, etc. of the regions where Lee, Kyu-bo traveled. This information is valuable and helpful in understanding the natural and human geography of the region. Next, the geographical nature of ｢Namhaengwolilgi｣ could be confirmed by examining the pattern in which the information included was accepted into posterity geographical journals. Since the information contained in ｢ Namhaengwolilgi｣ was accepted in 『Donggukyeojiseungram』 in the early Joseon Dynasty, it was widely accepted in geography from the national level to the regional level throughout almost the entire period of Joseon Dynasty. This can be seen as possible because ｢Namhaengwolilgi｣ was originally a work with geographical characteristics. Based on the above contents, the status of ｢Namhaengwolilgi｣ could be established in terms of geographical aspects. The information contained in ｢Namhaengwolilgi｣ is mostly about Jeollabukdo, and it is difficult to find previous writings that contain information about Jellabukdo intensively. For this reason, ｢Namhaengwolilgi｣ can be evaluated as the earliest period of Jeonbok geographical journal.

본고는 이규보(李奎報)의 ｢남행월일기｣(南行月日記)를 지리지적(地理誌的) 성격 을 지닌 작품으로 보고 그 면모를 고찰했다. ｢남행월일기｣는 기본적으로 산수유기 (山水遊記)에 속하는 작품이다. 다만 산수미의 형상화보다 유람지들의 정보를 제시 하는 데 집중했다는 점에서 ‘지리지적 성격을 지닌 산수유기’로 볼 수 있다. 산수 유기가 지리지적 성격을 지니는 것은 장르 경향 중 하나라 할 수 있으며, ｢남행월 일기｣는 한국 산수유기의 역사에서 이 경향을 선도한 작품이다. 한편 산수유기와 지리지의 상위 장르인 ‘기’(記)와 ‘지’(誌)는 ‘사실 기록’이라는 기본 성격을 공유하 기 때문에 서로 넘나들며 혼용되기도 했다. 이를 통해 보면 ｢남행월일기｣가 지리지 적 성격을 지니는 것이 충분히 가능함을 알 수 있다. ｢남행월일기｣의 지리지적 성격은 먼저 그 수록 내용을 살펴봄으로써 확인할 수 있었다. ｢남행월일기｣에는 이규보가 유람한 지역들의 지세, 식생, 풍속, 종교 등과 같은 정보들이 풍부하게 수록되어 있다. 이 정보들은 해당 지역들의 자연지리와 인문지리를 이해하는 데 많은 도움을 주는 가치 있는 것이다. 다음으로 수록 정보들이 후대 지리지에 수용된 실태를 살펴보는 것을 통해서도 ｢남행월일기｣의 지리지적 성격을 확인할 수 있었다. ｢남행월일기｣ 수록 정보들은 조선 초기에 『동국여지승람』(東國輿地勝覽)에 수용된 이래로 조선 시대 거의 전시 기 동안 전국 단위의 것은 물론 지역 단위 것에 이르기까지 지리지에 광범위하게 수용되었다. 이는 ｢남행월일기｣가 애초에 지리지적 성격을 지닌 작품이었기에 가 능한 일로 볼 수 있다. 이상의 내용에 의거해 ｢남행월일기｣의 위상을 지리지적 측면에서도 정립해 볼 수 있었다. ｢남행월일기｣ 수록 정보들은 거의 전라북도에 대한 것이며, 그 이전의 저술 중 전라북도에 대한 정보들을 집중적으로 수록한 것을 발견하기도 어렵다. 이 때문에 ｢남행월일기｣는 전북지(全北誌)의 성격을 지닌 가장 이른 시기의 저술로도 평가받을 수 있을 것이다.
