eSports is a cultural phenomenon enjoyed by all generations beyond the play culture of the younger generation, but it is not easy to explain eSports culture. Therefore, this study aims to make a theoretical attempt to understand the overall eSports culture. First, I would like to present the theoretical characteristics of eSports culture. Next, I would like to present a structure in which we understand eSports culture, that is, a schema. The former explained that the theoretical characteristics of eSports culture were historical, mutual subjectivity, ethics, and dynamics. The latter explained the perception structure of eSports culture, that is, the schematic, as mythological thinking, ontological thinking, and relational thinking. Through this, we will be able to establish an academic basis for understanding the eSports culture.

오늘날 e스포츠는 젊은 세대만의 놀이문화를 넘어, 전세대가 즐기는 문화현상이지만, e스포츠문화를 설명하기란 쉽지 않다. 단어 그대로 e스 포츠문화는 디지털 게임으로 대표되는 디지털문화와 스포츠문화가 결합 된 것이라고 하더라도 그들 간의 관계설정을 어떻게 설명하고 해석하느 냐에 따라 e스포츠문화의 내용은 다르게 전개될 가능성이 높다. 여기에 e스포츠가 갖는 중독, 시간낭비, 과몰입, 폭력성 등의 부정적 인식이 개 입되고 있는 상황에서 모두에게 통용되는 e스포츠문화를 규정하기란 쉽 지 않다. 따라서 본 연구는 전반적인 e스포츠문화를 이해하기 위한 이론 적 시도를 하고자 한다. 먼저 e스포츠문화의 이론적 특징을 제시하고자 한다. 다음으로 우리가 e스포츠문화를 이해하는 구조, 즉 도식(schema) 을 제시하고자 한다. 전자는 e스포츠문화의 이론적 특징으로 역사성, 상 호주관성, 윤리성, 역동성으로 설명하였다. 후자는 e스포츠문화에 대한 인식 구조, 즉 도식으로 신화적 사고, 존재론적 사고, 관계론적 사고로 설명하였다. 이러한 이론적 배경은 e스포츠문화를 이해하기 위한 학문적 근거로 제시될 수 있을 것이다.
