In order to lay the foundation for a revitalization plan for the modern acceptance of traditional art content, this study analyzes the improvement of the geomungo among traditional art content through literature-based analysis and discusses the modern acceptance process to establish standards for creative and enterprising activities in traditional art. and direction. To this end, we investigated the number of uses of the improved geomungo Hwahyeongeum introduced and used in the National Gugak Center's creative orchestra, and as a result, the number of uses gradually increased from 1 in 35 creative performances in 2011 to 15 out of 27 creative performances in 2018 did. Third, it can be said that not only original compositions but also traditional music such as jeongak and sanjo must be played to ensure that the instrument is widely used and inherited over time. However, this study only looked at cases used at the National Gugak Center, and follow-up research is needed in order for the improved geomungo Hwahyeongeum to be used as a modern instrument that accommodates the times for the continued development of geomungo music as traditional art content.

본 연구는 전통예술 콘텐츠의 현대적 수용을 위한 활성화 방안의 초석을 마련하기 위해 전통예술 콘텐츠 중 거문고의 악기개량을 문헌 중심으로 분석하고 현대적 수용과정에 대한 논의를 통해 전통예술의 창의적이고 진취적인 활동의 기준과 방향성을 제안하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 국립국악원 창작악단에 도입하여 사용되고 있는 개량 거문고 화현금의 사용 횟수를 조사해 본 결과 2011년도 창작 공연 35회 중 1회 사용에서 2018년도에는 창작 공연 총 27회 중 15회로 점차 사용의 횟수가 증가하였다. 국립국악원은 점차 관현악곡에서 6현 거문고를 사용한 것을 9현 화현금으로 합주하고 협연 시에도 사용하는 등의 정책적 노력을 통해 국내외 작곡가들과 거문고 연주자들에게 거문고의 다양한 음역을 활용한 표현의 범위를 넓히고 확대하는 데 기여하였다. 향후 거문고 음악의 현대적 수용을 통한 지속적인 발전을 위해 전통예술 콘텐츠 중 개량 거문고 화현금 활용의 기준과 방향성을 다음과 같이 제언하고자 한다. 첫째, 9현 화현금 뿐만 아니라 다양한 화현금을 활용할 수 있도록 여러곡들이 작곡되고 연주되어야 한다. 둘째, 화현금이 전문연주자 뿐만 아니라 초보자들에게 보급될 수 있도록 교육의 기회를 제공하고 실용성을 높여야 한다. 또한 학교에 악기를 보급하고 민간 교육기관에서도 배울 수 있도록 교육용 교재를 함께 개발하는 것도 중요하다. 셋째, 창작곡뿐만 아니라 정악, 산조 등의 전통 악곡을 연주해야 악기의 대중적 활용도가 높고 시대적 계승이 이루어졌다고 할 수 있다. 그러므로 거문고 연주자들이 창작곡뿐만 아니라 전통 악곡을 연주할 수 있도록 적극적인 장려가 필요하다. 그러나 본 연구는 국립국악원에서 활용된 사례를 중심으로 조사한 것으로, 향후 개량 거문고 화현금이 전통예술콘텐츠로서 거문고 음악의 지속적인 발전을 위하여 시대를 수용하는 현대적 악기로 사용되기 위해서는 후속연구가 필요하다.
