Physico-chemical characterization of mycocomposites prepared using domestic biomass

Developing mycocomposites (mycelium composites, biocomposites) using mycelium and domestic biomass, such as Reed and Kudzu, can reduce greenhouse gases. Oak chip sawdust is generally used in the production of this Mycocomposite, but domestic biomass development is considered essential because it requires alternatives due to recent regulations. Since this Mycocomposite has properties that vary depending on the strain and the biomass used, Trametes orientalis mutant strain through gamma-ray was used to observe several characteristics in domestic biomass. The measured strain characteristics included mycelium growth rate, thickness using an optical microscope, compressive strength using a Universal testing machine, and water absorption rate. Oak chip sawdust, Reeds, and Kudzu were used for biomass. The results of the measurement and the growth rate of each mycelium were similar. However, the Oak chip sawdust and Kudzu mixture composite are the best results when measured with compressive strength and water absorption. Therefore, Kudzu, domestic biomass, show the potential for the alternative plastic component.
