Since post-modernism, all forms traditionally considered art have been torn down, active discussions on "contemporaniety" in art have been conducted through a shift in perception that anything in appearance can be a work of art. Calligraphy also breaks away from the method of imitation and reproduction of traditional calligraphy, and discussions and discourses on the "contemporaniety" of calligraphy in the social structure of contemporary culture and art are required. Accordingly, in this paper, the "contemporaniety" of calligraphy was discussed as contents on de-text, anti-calligraphy, and Deconstruction of text-system through the analysis of the work of art (1991) by Xu Bing. can be said to be a paradoxical creation of calligraphy that produces the semantic structure of text with non-text by dismantling the text, narrative, and text-systems previously established . This can be said to be a groundbreaking form of calligraphy that is difficult to understand with the narrative structure of modernistic calligraphy developed on the historical line. is a formal structure in which understanding and interpretation are limited even in the experimental form of calligraphy avant-garde art, that is, the category of "modern calligraphy," which can be called postmodernism of calligraphy. is a ‘Contemporary Calligraphy’ that can be approached in the context of contemporary art, which Danto affirmed “The End of Art“, that the phenomenon of the world of art, which cannot be explained anymore by the vast-narrative of modernism.

포스트모더니즘 이후 전통적으로 미술이라 여겨지던 모든 형식이 와해되고, 그 외양이 무엇이든 미술작품이 될 수 있다는 인식의 전환을 통해 미술의 ‘동시대성’에 관 한 활발한 담론과 논의가 진행되고 있다. 이러한 시대적 흐름 아래 서예 또한 전통서예 의 모방과 재현의 방식에서 탈피하여, 동시대 문화예술의 사회구조 속에서 서예의 ‘동 시대성’에 관한 논의와 담론이 요구된다. 이에 본 논고에서는 서예의 ‘동시대성 (Contemporaniety)’에 관하여 탈(脫)텍스트, 반(反)서예, 문자해체에 관한 내용을 쉬빙(徐冰, Xu Bing, 1955-)의 <천서(天書, Book from the Sky)>(1991) 작품 분석을 통하여 논하였다. <천서>는 탈텍스트와 반서예 및 기존에 문화 인류적으로 구축되어 온 문자시스 템을 해체하여 비(非)텍스트로 텍스트의 의미구조를 생산하는 역설적 서예창작이라 할 수 있다. 이는 역사선 상에서 전개되던 기존 서예사인 모더니즘적인 서예 서사구조로 는 이해하기 어려운 서예에 대한 획기적인 형식이라 할 수 있다. <천서>는 서예의 아방 가르드적인 미술실험 형식, 즉 서예의 포스트모더니즘이라 일컬을 수 있는 ‘현대서예’ 의 범주에서도 이해와 해석이 제한되는 형식구조이다. <천서>는 단토(Arthur Danto, 1924-2013)가 모더니즘의 거대서사로는 더 이상 설명할 수 없는 미술계의 현상을 ‘예술의 종말’이라 단언하며 이후의 미술을 ‘동시대 미술(Contemporary Art)’이라 규정한 맥락에서 접근할 수 있는 ‘동시대 서예(Contemporary Calligraphy)’라 할 수 있다. 본 논고를 필두로 하여 서예의 동시대성에 관하여 더욱 다양하고 섬세한 담론이 형성되기를 기대한다.
