In this study, in order to find the direction of multicultural music education, South Asian folk songs were selected as song materials and applied in gaㆍmuㆍak lessons. The implications of the study are as follows. First, multicultural education and teaching and learning in the music department are necessary from the perspectives of the uniqueness of music and cultural respect. This is because music education respects the historical and cultural contexts of music in each cultural sphere and emphasizes activities that recognize and express the uniqueness of the broader culture from which the music originated. Second, as a result of examining Asian folk songs contained in textbooks, it was regrettable to say that it was instructional materials suitable for multicultural education because the proportion of their inclusion was lower than that of European folk songs, there is a concentration on certain pieces, and there were no learning activities to experience music culture in from various aspects. Third, based on the well-known pieces among South Asian folk songs, song materials a suitable for middle school-level gaㆍmuㆍak lessons were was selected. Gaㆍmuㆍak is one of the common music cultures in many countries and is a teaching method suitable for multicultural inclusive education. Expanding on this, practical teaching and learning examples were suggested to concretely develop ‘Gajaga Vanama’ as song materials through two instructional sessions. It is hoped that research on multicultural music education continues in various ways that can treat other music fairly while placing our own music at the core.

본 연구에서는 다문화 음악교육의 방향을 모색하고자, 남아시아 민요를 교재곡으로 선정 하고 가무악 수업을 적용하였다. 연구의 시사점은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 음악과에서 다문화적 교육과 교수ㆍ학습은 음악 문화의 고유성과 문화 존중의 관점 에서 필요하다. 음악교육은 각 문화권의 음악이 가지고 있는 역사ㆍ문화적 맥락을 존중하고, 그 음악이 유래한 문화 전반에 대한 고유성을 인정하며 표현하는 활동을 강조하기 때문이다. 둘째, 교과서에 수록된 아시아민요를 고찰한 결과, 유럽민요에 비해 수록 비율이 낮고 일 부 악곡에 편중되어 있으며, 다양한 측면에서 음악 문화를 경험할 수 있는 학습활동이 제시 되어 있지 않아 다문화 교육에 맞는 제재라고 하기에 아쉬움이 있었다. 셋째, 남아시아 민요 중에서 알려진 악곡을 바탕으로 중학교 수준의 가무악 수업이 가능한 교재곡을 선정하였다. 가무악은 여러 나라의 공통된 음악 문화 중 하나이고, 다문화 수용 교 육에 적합한 교수법이기 때문이다. 이를 전개하여 ‘코끼리 바나마’를 제재곡으로 2차시를 통 해 구체화할 수 있는 교수ㆍ학습의 실제를 제시하였다. 우리 음악을 중심에 두고 다른 음악을 공평하게 다룰 수 있는 다양한 방법의 다문화 음악 교육에 관한 연구가 계속되기를 기대한다.
