This research scrutinizes academic papers and thesis discussing Korean traditional music education specifically targeting adults, and sees life long gugak education from the perspective of its research history. The writings on adult gugak education deal with various programs like event, music therapy, culture welfare, college affiliated coursework, online learning, and stage participatory trainings, revealing how the life long gugak education has unfold showing its developing process. Also, the adult learner group becomes subdivided into middle aged ladies, demented elderly, foreigner, youth, office workers, college students, and members in a club for more detailed academic discussion. Research methodology has also widened its application of reference and materials using data collected from the field observation/participation, interview, questionnaire, actual distant class, and course evaluation. The achievement and tendency of the study on adults’ gugak education in the perspective of life long gugak education are as follow. First of all, the growing academic interest during the early 2000s began with master’s thesis, and gradually proceeds to Ph. D. dissertation and scholars’ papers in academic journals. Secondly, Chung Ang University has conferred many degrees to the research on elderly gugak therapy program as well as its remedial value, and therefore the relevant research set one of the major paradigms. Thirdly, after 2015, scholars began to design many gugak programs applying various genres such as creative music, literati songs, vulgar folk vocal music, gayageum, haegeum, changgeuk (theaters), and percussive ensemble music. The importance of cultural communication and communal harmony were highlighted in foreigner gugak education. Fourthly, recent study pays attention to the learner’s point of view and actual teaching scene reflecting and accepting individual ideas or the meaning that the learners imposed to their learning. Moreover, researchers have begun to write about distance learning and media applied education on the basis of VR, e-learning platform, Zoom, and smartphone applications.

본 연구는 성인국악교육 논문 검토분석을 통해 평생국악교육의 연구사적 전개와 발전 과 정을 고찰하였다. 성인 국악교육은 공연행사, 음악치료, 문화복지, 대학기관 교과, 온라인학 습, 무대참여 등 다양하며, 연구내용은 실태조사, 현장 수행, 수업안, 콘텐츠 구축방안 등 광 범위하다. 학문적 성장은 연구방법의 확대와 함께 발전하여, 문헌과 수치통계 중심의 연구에 서 점차 현장관찰, 면담, 설문조사 등 학습자 관점을 반영하는 연구로 전환한다. 학습자집단 의 구분도 단순히 ‘성인’에서 중년여성, 대학생, 보호시설 이용자, 장애인, 외국인, 20대, 동호 회 회원 등으로 세분된다. 평생국악교육 연구의 시기별 경향과 연구사적 관점의 성과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 2000년대 초 복지기관 국악교육 실태조사, 현황 연구, 노인 국악활동의 연구가 시작되고, 초기 학위논 문 연구는 한계점이 있다. 둘째, 전문 학술논문의 발표와 후속세대 학자의 등장으로 연구성 과가 이어지나 연구주제에는 큰 변화가 없다. 셋째, 2010년 이후 노인치료 목적의 국악교육 연구와 학습자 증상 변화에 관한 수치분석 연구가 전형적 형태로 나타난다. 넷째, 2015년 전후 다양한 프로그램 연구가 국악창작곡, 가곡, 산타령, 가야금, 해금, 창극, 민속악, 모듬북, 난타를 활용한 수업구성안을 제시하며, 외국인 국악교육은 문화교차적 소통과 이(異) 집단 화합의 의미가 부여된다. 최근 연구는 학습 참여자와의 상호소통을 바탕으로 한 의견수렴을 중요한 자료로 활용하고, 원격교육에 관한 연구가 영상매체, e-러닝 플랫폼, 비대면 줌, 앱 개발 등을 주목한다 소속감과 대면 활동의 의미가 컸던 성인, 평생국악교육이 교육공학적 방식 도입으로 비대 면, 젊은층 참여 확충, 자기 주도적 활동의 새로운 방향성을 갖게 된다. 향후 다양한 사례 연구와 타집단과의 비교 분석 연구가 요구된다.
