This study examines the characteristics of medical and health expenditure in Korean household consumption expenditures, using various time series models. The findings can be summarized as follows: Firstly, as national income and housing prices rise, medical and health expenditures increase non-linearly. Secondly, as income quintiles increase, there is a decrease in the average propensity to consume of the health (medical) expenditure. Thirdly, the disparity in health expenditure is associated with income inequality, as well as the rise in housing prices and the decrease in interest rates. Fourthly, in a high-growth regime where health expenditures exceed a threshold, positive income effects and negative interest rate effects are observed. The above analysis results imply that more policy attention should be paid to the health problems of the low-income class during economic recession.

본 연구는 다양한 시계열 모형을 이용하여 한국 가계 소비지출에서 의료·보건 지출의 특성을 살펴보는 데에 있다. 연구결과는 다음과 같이 요약할 수 있다. 첫째, 국민소득과 주택가격이 상승함에 따라 의료·보건 지출 은 비선형적으로 증가한다. 둘째, 소득분위가 증가함에 따라 보건(의료) 지출의 평균소비성향이 감소한다. 셋째, 보 건 지출의 격차는 소득불평등과 더불어 주택가격의 상승과 이자율의 하락과 관련이 있다. 넷째, 보건 지출이 임계 치를 초과하는 고성장 국면에서는 양의 소득효과와 음의 이자율효과가 관찰된다. 이상의 분석결과는 경제침체 시 에 저소득층의 건강문제에 보다 정책적 관심이 기울여져야 할 것을 암시한다.
