The purpose of this study is to examine the trends in the study of Wonhyo philosophy in North Korea. I have to research and read references published in North Korea in order to examine the study of Wonhyo ’s philosophy in North Korea, and I confess that there were practical limitations in finding and reading them. Until now, the research of South Korean scholars dealing with the study of Korean philosophy in North Korea has dealt with the entire History of Korean Philosophy (Sang)(1960 and 1961) in North Korea or on the understanding and comparison of Buddhist philosophy published in North Korea until the 1980s. There were two main periods in which the trend of understanding North Korea's Korean philosophy emerged in South Korea. The two periods are around 1988 and around 1999. It's time to do this study again. I think there are two characteristics of this study. First, while South Korean researchers have studied Korean philosophy in North Korea up to the 1980s, this study covers the 2010 years. Second, while the previous studies dealt with Korean philosophy in general, this study deals with North Korean scholars' understanding of Wonhyo's Buddhist philosophy. The text was organized in the following order: First, I examined the current state of research by South Korean scholars on Korean philosophy and Korean Buddhist philosophy in North Korea. Second, I briefly reviewed the research on Wonhyo in North Korea. Third, I examined how the content of research on Wonhyo’s philosophy changed in North Korea over time and by scholars. Finally, I concluded this paper by briefly comparing the research on Wonhyo’s philosophy in North and South Korea, and thinking about how to write a history of Korean philosophy that reflects both the study of North and South Korea in the future, and how the study of Wonhyo philosophy can be expanded.

본 연구의 목적은 북한에서의 원효철학 연구 동향을 살펴보는 것이다. 북한에서 이루어진 원효철학 연구를 살펴보기 위해 북한에서 발간된 참고문헌을 봐야하는데, 이를 찾고 읽는데 현실적인 한계가 있었음을 고백한다. 이제까지 북한에서의 한국철학 연구를 다루는 남한 학자들의 연구는 북한에서의 『조선철학사(상)』(1960, 1961) 전체를 다루거나 1980년대까지 북한에서 발간된 불교철학 이해와 비교를 다루는 연구였다. 남한에서 북한의 한국철학에 대해 이해하려는 흐름이 나타난 것은 크게 두 시기다. 1988년 전후 시기와 1999년 전후 시기다. 이제 다시 연구를 할 때가 되었다. 필자가 생각하는 본 연구의 특징은 두 가지다. 첫째, 이전 남한 연구자들이 한 북한의 한국철학 연구는 1980년대까지를 다루었다면, 본 연구는 2010년도 연구들까지 다룬다. 둘째, 이전 연구는 북한의 한국철학 전반을 다룬 연구들이었다면, 본 연구는 원효라는 한 철학자의 불교철학에 대한 북한 학자들의 이해가 어떤가를 다룬 것이다. 본문 내용은 다음과 같은 순서로 구성되었다. 첫째, 남한에서의 북한 한국철학 및 한국불교철학 관련 연구 현황을 살펴봤다. 둘째, 북한에서 원효 관련 연구 현황: 자료 및 내용을 간략히 살펴봤다. 셋째, 시기 및 학자별 원효철학 기술과 연구 내용의 변화를 살펴봤다. 넷째, 남북한에서의 원효철학 연구를 비교하고, 앞으로 남북한 연구를 모두 반영한 한국철학사 기술을 위해 원효철학 연구가 어떻게 확장될 수 있는지 고민했다.
