This study investigates the effects of trade and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) on economic growth in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. We explore the impact of trade and FDI on economic development, particularly scrutinizing whether FDI and trade hinder the economic growth of host countries. Although many studies suggest that economic growth can be driven by FD I and trade, this study provides empirical results for the period from 2010 to 2021 in Asian countries. Resuts reveal FDI has shown to have a negative impact. ASEAN while trade in ASEAN has shown to have a positive impact on economic development. Thus governments should build a framework to aviode aggressive FDI. They also have to strive to facilitate FDI, which can lead economic development.
