The purpose of this study can be summarized as follows. First, it is to classify and systematize the existing research in the field of medical tourism. Perceiveness was developed as a criterion for classification, and theoretical typology was derived from using it. Second, this study focuses on discovering and verifying new research topics in the field of medical tourism. Focusing on the research question of “what are the factors that affect individual perception,” we intend to introduce the regulatory focus theory to the field of medical tourism. This study believes that the advantage due to expand-ability of the theory can be obtained by applying the concept and logic of the regulatory focus theory to overseas medical tourism. It is not simply the fact that the regulatory focus theory is a determinant that affects perceiveness. It is meaningful that it presents a new research question that needs to be actively studied in the field of medical tourism in the future. In other words, the question of “what factors affect perceiveness?” can become a big research question in the field of medical tourism.

본 연구의 연구목적은 다음과 같이 요약할 수 있다. 첫째, 의료관광분야의 선행연구를 분류하고 체계화하는 작업의 필요성을 제기하고, 이를 위해 분류를 위해 사용할 수 있는 기준으로 지각화를 제시하였다. 둘째, 앞으로 의료관광분야의 연구 활성화를 위해 새로운 연구주제를 발굴하 여 제시하는 것이다. 이를 위해 “개인의 지각화에 영향을 주는 요인이 무엇인가”하는 연구문제를 중심으로, 조절초점이론을 의료관광분야에 도입하고자 한다. 본 연구는 조절초점이론의 개념과 논리를 해외의료관광에 적용시킴으로써 확장성이라는 이점을 얻을 수 있다고 본다. 이는 단순히 조절초점이론이 지각화에 영향을 주는 결정요인이 된다는 사실이 중요한 것이 아니라. 앞으로 의료관광분야에서 활발하게 연구되어야 할 새로운 연구문제를 제시해준다는 의의가 있다. 즉, “지각화에 영향을 주는 요인이 무엇인가?”하는 의문이 의료관광분야의 큰 연구문제(a big research question)이 될 수 있다는 것이다.
