This study aims to form a public consensus and suggest alternatives by pursuing beauty in photographs of national defense. To that end, the researcher analyzed similarities and differences in interactions between photographers, objects, and the audience based on pictures awarded grand prizes from the Korea photo art exhibitions and first prizes from Korea Hoguk Art Exhibition between 2012 and 2021. Findings showed that awarded pictures tend to have an angle looking at points other than at the camera, which is “a provisional perspective,” rather than from an angle focusing on the camera, which refers to a perspective that is “a calling for perspective.” More pictures were taken through standard lenses rather than optical or telephoto lenses. In addition, these pictures were taken from vertical angles, at eye-level with the photographer, rather than from the higher angles or lower angles relative to the photographer. In the national defense pictures, “calling for perspectives” is similar to “provisional” ones, with more medium or close-up shots than long shots. It is likely that national defense pictures intentionally pursue dynamics and strength, while pictures awarded in photography contests are generally natural and art-oriented. Thus, if more national defense pictures are taken from the observers’ perspective, the audience might see them as more approachable and admirable rather than as a reminder of the military. In particular, since the Korea Hoguk Art Exhibition presents a limited theme of 'defending the country', if the subject is photographed with the compositional characteristics and various angles of view of the contest photos analyzed in this paper, the photographer, subject, The interaction of the viewer will be smoother, and through this, it will be an art-oriented photo with a natural and comfortable composition.

본 연구는 국방(國防) 사진이 일반 공모전 사진처럼 예술성이 있고 아름다움을 추구하여 국민과의 공감대를 형성하는 방안을 제시하고자 한다. 이를 위해 2012년부터 2021년까지 10년간 대한민 국 호국미술대전의 사진 부문 최우수상과 대한민국 사 진대전 대상 사진에서 촬영자와 피사체 및 관객과의 상 호작용적인 관계를 카메라 촬영 구도를 중심으로 공통 점과 차이점을 분석해 보았다. 그 결과, 촬영 구도로 본 사진대전 수상작은 카메라를 응시하는 '요구적 시선 '보다는 카메라와 관련 없는 곳을 응시하는 '제공적 시 선'의 사진이 많았으며, 광각렌즈나 망원렌즈로 촬영한 사진보다는 표준렌즈로 촬영한 사진이 많았다. 또한, 촬영자의 눈높이보다 높은 '부감샷'이나 촬영자의 눈높 이보다 낮은 '앙각샷'보다는 촬영자의 눈높이와 비슷한 ‘정각’ 사진이 많았다. 이와는 다르게 국방 사진에는 요 구적 시선과 제공적 시선이 대등했으며, 롱 샷보다는 미디움 샷이나 클로즈업 사진이 많았다. 이와 같은 결과는 국방 사진이 인위적으로 역동적이 고 강인한 표현을 강조하기 위한 사진이라면 일반 공모 전 사진은 자연적이며 예술 지향적인 결과일 것이다. 이를 참고하여 국방 사진의 경우에도 관찰자가 보는 관 점에서 촬영한 객관적 사진이 많아진다면 군의 이미지 가 강하고 두려운 이미지에서 탈피하여, 보다 친밀하고 동경의 대상으로 관람자에게 다가갈 수 있을 것이다. 특히 대한민국 호국미술대전이 ‘호국(護國)’이라는 한 정된 주제를 제시하기 때문에 호국미술대전에 출품하는 사진을 본 논문에서 분석한 공모전 사진의 구도적 특징 과 다양한 화각으로 피사체를 촬영한다면 촬영자, 피사 체, 관람자의 상호작용이 더욱 원활해질 것이며 이를 통해 자연적이며 편안한 구도의 예술 지향적인 사진이 될 것이다.
