A holistic approach is taken in this study to address what crisis religion faces as well as what choices religion should make during this Great Transition caused by COVID-19. The study examines first the Great Transition that has accelerated since the pandemic. The pandemic has led to a shift from globalization to deglobalization in the world. Economically, people are seeking a new economic system that can resolve the current crisis of capitalism. On a social level, people are now able to participate in the fourth industrial revolution on a daily basis through the advent of digital contactless communication. Taking such a paradigm shift into consideration, this study suggests that religions should also shift from being institutions that exist solely for the sake of their own denominations to organizations that exist for the sake of society, a religion that is not restricted by its own traditions, but is also capable of expanding its boundaries and cooperating with other religious organizations. Moreover, it suggests that religion should move beyond its traditional role as a sacred religion and become a religion of daily living.

본 연구에서는 팬데믹 이후 가속화되는 대전환기에 종교는 어떠한 위기를 맞이하고 있으며 어떠한 선택을 해야 하는가에 답하기 위한 총론적 접근을 하였다. 이를 위해 먼저 팬데믹 이후 가속화되고 있는 대전환을 정리하였다. 팬데믹은 세계화의 흐름에서 벗어나 탈세계화 되고 있 음을 보여주었다. 경제적으로는 자본주의 경제구조의 위기를 돌파할 수 있는 새로운 경제체제 의 전환이 모색되고 있다. 사회적으로는 4차 산업혁명을 일상에서 경험할 수 있는 디지털 온택 트 시대가 개막되었다. 이러한 패러다임의 전환 속에 종교는 교단을 위한 종교가 아니라 사회 를 위한 종교, 교단의 틀에 갇힌 종교가 아니라 교단을 넘어 연대하고 협력할 수 있는 종교, 성 스러운 종교의 자리를 넘어 일상의 종교로 변화되어야 함을 제시하였다.
