‘Endemic’ and ‘ChatGPT’ can be said to be two key keywords that are socially meaningful at the point of spring 2023. If endemic is a current keyword related to the health and life of the human body/mind, the strength of generative AI represented by ChatGPT is a keyword that reflects potential expectations and anxiety for the future related to so-called ‘singularity’. In this paper, two major tasks were carried out. First, the current stage of civilization was diagnosed with two keywords. Second, based on such a diagnosis, reflective work was conducted on the current/future direction of the religious communities. Regarding the endemic, the tasks of publicity and care (mind care, spiritual welfare) were presented, and specific practical programs such as ‘caring for each other’, ‘caring for love’, and ‘solidarity of caring’ were proposed. As for ChatGPT, we looked at the new status of ‘the power to ask questions’ along with the implications contained in the ambivalent attitudes of ‘wonder’ and ‘fear’. It was also important to point out that humanity is responsible for discriminating the AI’s ‘as if performance’ in the face of the ChatGPT hallucination phenomenon. The author emphasized that the religious communities should be able to decipher the implications of AI phenomena, including ChatGPT, and present meaningful directions.

‘엔데믹’과 ‘챗GPT’는 2023년 봄의 시점에서 사회적으로 의미 있는 두 개의 핵심 키워드라 고 할 수 있다. 엔데믹이 인류의 몸/마음의 건강과 생명과 관련된 현재적 키워드라면, 챗GPT로 대표되는 생성형 AI의 강세는 이른바 ‘특이점’과 관련한 미래에 대한 잠재적 기대와 불안을 반 영하는 키워드이다. 본 논문에서는 크게 두 가지 작업을 실행하였다. 첫째, 두 개의 키워드를 중심으로 현단계의 문명적 상황을 진단하였다. 둘째, 그러한 진단을 토대로 종교계의 현재/미래적 방향에 대한 성 찰적 작업을 실시하였다. 엔데믹과 관련해서는 공공성, 돌봄(마음 돌봄, 영적 복지)의 과업을 제시하였고, ‘서로-돌봄’, ‘사랑의 돌봄’, ‘돌봄의 연대’라는 구체적인 실천 프로그램을 제안하였 다. 챗GPT에 대해서는 ‘경이로움’과 ‘두려움’이라는 양가적 태도에 담겨진 함의와 함께 ‘질문 하는 힘’의 새로운 위상을 살펴보았다. 챗GPT 할루시네이션 현상에 직면한 인류에게 AI의 ‘as if의 연기’를 변별할 책임이 인류에게 주어져 있다는 점 또한 중요하게 제기하였다. 본 연구자 는 종교계가 챗GPT를 비롯한 AI현상의 함의를 해독하고 의미 있는 방향을 제시할 수 있어야 함을 강조하였다.
