In modern society, the value of Popularization is highlighted, which is applied in the overall field of society. In the practice of publicity, efforts are being made to convert empirical research results into social values in humanities such as archaeology. These efforts have been made since the publication of McKinsey's book Public Archaeology in the 1970s. Research on popular archaeology has been progressed in Republic of Korea, but research on categorizing concepts is very insufficient. Therefore, in this study, the development process of Public Archaeology was explored, and the concepts established in the process were summarized. In this context, based on the seven types of Public Archaeology claimed by Gabriel Moshenska, the practice patterns of Public Archaeology in the Silla Royal Capital survey study were classified and implication were derived. The results of this study were as follow: (1) the Silla Royal Capital survey study contributes to capacity building education to cultivate understanding of Silla royal scriptures and the ability to apply archaeological field through archaeological sites and school. (2) at some Silla Royal Capital survey sites, the public is provided with an opportunity to interpret the meaning of the archaeological heritage as well as the recording of the archaeological heritage. (3) the Silla Royal Capital Archaeological Site is a cultural space open to the public that anyone can access. (4) the Silla Royal Capital survey research realizes public interests and social values through information transmission through media. In order to expand the practice of popular archaeology in future Silla Royal Capital survey research cases, public participation methods applying Howard Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences was developed in 1983 by Dr. Howard Gardner theory can be sought.

현대사회에서 대중성의 가치가 부각되고 있으며, 사회의 전반적인 분야에서 적용되고 있다. 이 같은 실천은 고고학과 같은 인문학 분야에서도 실증적인 연구결과를 사회적 가치로 전환하는 노력이 곳곳에서 이뤄지고 있다. 이러한 노력은 1970년대 맥김지(C.R. McGimsey)의 저서인 『대중고고학(Public Archaeology)』 출간을 기점으로 지속적으로 이루어져왔다. 그간 국내에서도 대중고고학에 관한 연구가 진척되었지만 개념을 유형화하는 실증적 연구는 미진하였다. 본 연구에서는 대중고고학의 전개 과정을 천착하고, 그 과정에서 정립된 개념을 정리하였다. 그리고 이러한 맥락에서 가브리엘 모셴스카(Gabriel Moshenska)가 주장한 대중고고학의 7가지 유형화 기준을 토대로 신라왕경 조사연구에서 나타난 대중고고학의 실천 양상을 분류하고 시사점을 도출하였다. 이상의 결과 및 논의를 종합해보면 첫째, 신라왕경 조사연구는 고고학 현장과 학교연계 프로그램을 통한 신라왕경에 관한 이해와 고고학적 현장 실무적용 능력을 배양하는 역량강화교육에 기여하고 있다. 둘째, 일부 신라왕경 조사현장에서 대중은 고고유산의 기록화 작업뿐만 아니라, 그 안에 담긴 의미를 해석할 수 있는 기회가 제공된다. 셋째, 신라왕경 고고학 유적은 누구나 접근이 가능한 대중에게 개방된 문화공간이다. 넷째, 신라왕경 조사연구는 매체를 통한 정보전달을 통해 공공의 이익과 사회적 가치를 실현한다. 향후 신라왕경 조사연구 사례에서 대중고고학의 실천을 확대하기 위해서는 하워드 가드너가 제시한 다중지능이론의 적용을 모색해볼 수 있다.
