This study collected news related to major issues of the ‘Army’ by dividing it into three periods through big data, and analyzed major issues related to the Army and derived problems. The analysis period was divided into three sub-periods (initially by the Moon Jae In government, after the implementation of Defense Reform 2.0, and after the COVID-19 situation) from 2017 to 2021, and the topics of articles covered by the media were analyzed. As a result, the main issues of the Army in the news were not defense capabilities related to the military’s main role, but internal and social issues such as sex crimes, corruption, abuse, combat power abuse, and military welfare, as well as food distribution, food quality, and medical services. In response to these negative issues, the military has shown efforts to improve itself by promoting Defense Reform 2.0 and improving meals. In order for the Army to overcome its current negative image and focus on the development of its military power, it is necessary to actively educate and invest in the soldiers inside the military. In addition, it was suggested that the military should make thorough efforts to change its image by actively identifying and resolving issues that have been consistently raised inside and outside the military.

본 연구는 빅데이터를 통해 ‘육군’의 주요 이슈와 관련된 뉴스를 3개 섹션으 로 구분하여 수집하고, 육군 관련 주요 이슈를 분석하여 문제점을 도출하였다. 분석 기간은 2017년부터 2021년까지 총 3개 구간(문재인 정부 초기, 국방개혁 2.0 시행 이후, 코로나19 사태 이후)으로 구분하여 언론에서 다룬 기사의 주제 를 분석했다. 그 결과, 뉴스 속 군의 주요 이슈는 군 본연의 역할과 관련된 국 방력보다는 성범죄, 부정부패, 가혹행위, 전투력 남용, 군 복지, 급식, 급식 품 질, 의료서비스 등 군 내부 및 사회 문제였다. 이러한 부정적 이슈에 대해 군은 국방개혁 2.0을 추진하고, 급식 개선 등을 통해 발전하기 위해 노력하는 모습을 보였다. 육군이 현재의 부정적인 이미지를 탈피하고 군사력 발전에 집중하기 위 해서는 군 내부 장병들에 관심을 가지고 적극적인 교육과 투자가 필요하다. 또 한, 군 내외로 지속적으로 제기된 문제점들을 적극적으로 파악하고 이에 대해 해결하겠다는 의지 표명과 함께 군 이미지 변화를 위한 철저한 노력이 필요함 을 제시하였다.
