In this paper, three aspects were considered that the expression of “sky” in Genjimonogatari is deeply related to the character formation of the characters and the theme of the work. First of all, in terms of love between men and women, the composition of men and women was found in the expressions of “sky” and “moon”, saying, “Women hide their appearance and men search for women”. In addition, it was confirmed that the scene of “sky” is depicted as the mental landscape of a person in love, and that the linguistic playful aspect of the expression of “sky” symbolizes a relationship that does not mesh between men and women. Second, in terms of mourning, we looked at the symbolism of the act of looking at the “sky” and the idea that the “smoke” of cremation becomes the “cloud” of the “sky”, making the relationship between mourning and the “sky” closely related. In addition, it was confirmed that various expressions are being displayed as “sky” captures various landscapes related to the feelings of mourning. Third, from the perspective of viewing “sky” as a space of extinction, the anxiety and despair of the existence of women suffering from men are symbolically depicted in the expression that “moon” or “snow” disappears from “sky”.

本稿では『源氏物語』において｢空｣の表現が登場人物たちの関係性や内面をかたどる固有の表現としていかに現れ、また物語の主題ともいかに密接に関わっているのかについて考察した。まず、恋の場面における｢空｣の表現に関しては、源氏と朧月夜、夕霧と落葉の宮、匂宮と中の君･匂宮と浮舟について検討し、｢月｣と｢空｣の表現に＜女は姿を消し男は見失った女を探し求めさまよう＞といった男女の構図が見られること、｢空｣の情景が恋に悲嘆し惑乱する人物の心象風景として描かれていること、｢空｣の表現の言葉遊び的な様相が噛み合わない男女の関係性を印象づけていることなどを論じた。次に、哀傷と関わる｢空｣の表現に関しては、源氏の葵の上哀傷、幻巻の紫の上哀傷、薫の大君哀傷の場面を分析し、｢空｣が｢大空は恋しき人の形見かは｣という発想や火葬の｢煙｣の立ち昇る空間である点において哀傷の場面にふさわしい表現性を有していたこと、また｢空｣が｢ほととぎす｣や｢雁｣など哀傷のよすがとなる景物を抱き込むことで多様な表現性が発揮されていること、｢空｣に見られる薫特有の観念性などについて述べた。さらに、消滅の空間としての｢空｣の表現に関しては、夕顔･女三の宮･浮舟の三人の女君に注目し、消滅しそうな底知れぬ存在の不安やわが身を消し去りたいほどの絶望、漂うようにして生きるわが身への自己認識などについて分析し、｢空｣がこれらの女君たちの固有の存在性を浮き彫りにする表現として駆使されていることを確かめた。

본 논문에서는 『겐지 이야기』에 나타난 ‘하늘(空)’의 표현이 등장인물들의 인물조형과 작품의 주제에 깊이 관련되어있는 양상을 3가지 측면에서 고찰하였다. 먼저 남녀 간의 사랑과 관련된 측면에서는 ‘하늘’과 ‘달(月)’의 표현에서 <여자는 모습을 감추고 남자는 여자를 찾아 헤맨다>는 남녀의 구도를 찾아볼 수 있었다. 또한 ‘하늘’의 정경이 사랑에 빠진 인물의 심상풍경(心象風景)으로 그려지고 있다는 점과 ‘하늘’의 표현의 언어유희적인 양상이 남녀의 맞물리지 않는 관계를 상징하고 있다는 점을 확인하였다. 다음으로 애상(哀傷)과 관련된 측면에서 ‘하늘’을 바라보는 행위의 상징성, 그리고 화장(火葬)의 ‘연기’가 ‘하늘’의 ‘구름’이 된다는 발상이 애상과 ‘하늘’과의 관련성을 긴밀하게 만들고 있음을 살펴보았다. 그리고 ‘하늘’이 애상의 심정과 관련된 여러 경물(景物)을 담아냄으로써 다양한 표현성이 발휘되고 있음을 확인하였다. 또한 ‘하늘’을 소멸의 공간으로 보는 관점에서 ‘달’이나 ‘눈(雪)’이 ‘하늘’에서 사라져 소멸해간다는 표현에 남자로 인해 고뇌하는 여성들의 존재의 불안과 절망이 상징적으로 그려지고 있음을 살펴보았다.
