The purpose of this study is to explore the meaning of experiences experienced by counselors in the process of counseling multicultural children frequently encountered in the counseling field as multicultural children increase according to the trend of the times toward a multicultural society, and through this, the counselor’s cross-cultural communication to derive meaning. To this end, a qualitative research method was used, and in-depth interviews were conducted with 5 counselors with experience in counseling multicultural children and adolescents for data collection. Nine core themes in three areas were derived by comparing and analyzing the collected data and organizing the concepts. The research results are as follows. First, from unfamiliar encounters to familiarity. Second, from intercultural communication to interpersonal communication. Third, cooperation toward the future that transcends cultures. Through these results, the implications and limitations of this study were presented, and based on this, it is intended to be used as basic data in the development of psychological support programs for multicultural children in the future.

본 연구의 목적은 다문화 사회로의 시대적 흐름에 따라 다문화 아동이 증가함으로써 상담현장에서 빈번하게 마주치는 다문화 아동을 상담하는 과정에서 상담자가 겪는 경 험의 의미를 탐색하고, 이를 통해 상담자의 상호문화소통의 의미를 도출하고자 한다. 이를 위해 질적 연구방법을 활용하였으며 자료수집을 위해 다문화 아동 및 청소년을 대상으로 상담 경험이 있는 상담자 5명을 심층면담 하였다. 수집된 자료를 비교, 분석 하고 개념을 정리하여 3개 영역 9개의 핵심주제를 도출하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같 다. 첫째, 낯선 만남에서 익숙함으로 둘째, 문화간 소통에서 개인 간 소통으로 셋째, 문 화를 넘나드는 미래를 향한 협력이다. 이러한 결과를 통해 본 연구가 갖는 시사점과 한 계점을 제시하였으며, 이를 바탕으로 향후 다문화 아동 대상 심리지원 프로그램 개발에 있어 기초자료로 활용하고자 한다.
