The purpose of this study is to explore and analyze factors that may affect the improvement of the settlement will of the young population in local small and medium-sized cities. Specifically, this study limited the scope of the study to "the young population aged 25 to 49 living in Jeollabuk-do" based on the fact that the population outflow of local small and medium-sized cities occurs mainly, and collected a total of 570 short-answer data using Macromill Embrain's online panel. Subsequently, word frequency analysis, centrality analysis, and social network analysis were conducted through a data preprocessing process for the collected subjective response data. As a result of the analysis, it was found that physical environmental factors in the region were important for the settlement intention of the young population in local small and medium-sized cities. In particular, among the physical environmental factors, the centrality index for convenience facilities, jobs, and natural environment was relatively high. Therefore, local small and medium-sized cities facing the crisis of population decline due to the departure of the resident population today will need to prioritize the aforementioned factors and make efforts to improve them. On the other hand, the fact that this study collected data using open questions and conducted language network analysis centered on them can be seen as an important contribution academically compared to the fact that most existing studies rely only on structured questionnaire items.

본 연구는 지방중소도시 젊은 층 인구의 정주의지 향상에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 요인들 을 탐색적으로 분석하는데 그 목적이 있다. 구체적으로 본 연구는 지방중소도시의 인구 유출이 젊은 층을 중심으로 발생한다는 점에 기초하여 ‘전라북도에 거주하는 만25세～49 세 젊은 층 인구’를 연구 범위로 제한하고, 마크로밀엠브레인의 온라인 패널을 활용하여 총 570명의 주관식 응답 자료를 수집하였다. 이어 수집된 주관식 응답 자료를 대상으로 데이터 전처리 과정을 거쳐, 단어 빈도분석, 중심성 분석, 언어네트워크 분석 등을 실시하 였다. 분석결과, 지방중소도시 젊은 층 인구의 정주의향에는 지역 내 물리적 환경 요소가 중요한 것으로 나타났다. 특히, 물리적 환경 요소 중에서도 편의시설, 일자리, 자연환경 등 에 대한 중심성 지수가 상대적으로 높았다. 따라서 오늘날 거주인구의 지역이탈로 인해 인구감소의 위기에 직면한 지방중소도시들은 앞서 언급한 요인들을 우선순위로 두고 이 를 개선하기 위한 노력이 필요할 것이다. 한편, 본 연구에서 개방형 질문을 활용해 자료 를 수집하고 이를 중심으로 언어네트워크 분석을 실시하였다는 점은 기존 연구들이 대부 분 구조화된 설문항목에만 의존하고 있다는 점과 비교해 학술적으로 중요한 기여를 하였 다고 볼 수 있다.
