The purpose of this paper is to examine the Buan Donghak Peasant Revolution reflected in the long epic poetry collection. T h e t a r g e t p o e t r y c o l l e c t i o n s i n c l u d e S h i n D o n g y u p ’ s Geumgang(1967), Ahn Doseop’s Torch of Hwang Tohyun(1979), Jang Hyomoon’s Epic Jeon Bongjun(1982), Song Sookwon’s Saeya Saeya Blue Saeya(1987), Lee Byunghoon’s Mokdu General(1990), Park Youngbok’s Donghak Farmers’s War(1994), and Kim Yongkwan’s Bluebird Jeon Bongjun(1997). The initiatives considered in this paper reflect the Buan Donghak Peasant Revolution, which aims to break the feudal order and defeat the invasion of foreign powers to achieve an independent modern state. The Baeksan Congress held in Buan in March 1894 was the full fledged start of the Donghak Peasant Revolution. The Donghak Peasant Army, which gathered in Baeksan Mountain, established a camp system, established the cause of the revolution, and established discipline by appointing Jeon Bongjun as the general. It laid the foundation for the Donghak Peasant Revolution to expand nationwide. The results of this paper are expected to spread research on the initiatives reflecting the Buan Donghak Peasant Revolution and increase the creative achievements of poets. The Buan Donghak Peasant Revolution can be evaluated as a mirror of history that led to the March 1st Movement, the April 19th Revolution, the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement, and the Candle Revolution.

이 논문의 목적은 장편서사시에 반영된 부안 동학농민혁명을 살펴보고자 하는 데 있다. 대상 시집은 신동엽의 『금강』(1967), 안도섭의 『황토현의 횃불』(1979), 장효문의 『서사시 전봉준』(1982), 송수권의 『새야 새야 파랑새야』(1987), 이병훈의 『녹두장군』(1990), 박영복의 『동학농민전쟁』(1994), 김용관의 『파랑새 전봉준』(1997) 등이다. 이 논문에서 고찰한 장편서사시들은 봉건적 질서를 타파하고 외세의 침탈을 물리쳐 주체적인 근대국가를 이룩하려는 부안 동학농민혁명의 정신을 반영하고 있다. 1894년 3월 부안에서 열린 백산대회는 그 동학농민혁명의 출발이었다. 백산에 집결한 동학농민군은 전봉준을 대장으로 추대하는 등 진영을 갖추었고, 혁명의 대의를 마련했으며, 기율을 확립했다. 동학농민혁명이 전국적으로 확대해 나가는 데 토대를 마련한 것이다. 이 논문으로 부안 동학농민혁명을 반영한 시작품들에 관한 연구가 확산되고, 시인들의 창작 성과가 늘어나길 기대한다. 부안 동학농민혁명은 3·1운동, 4·19혁명, 5·18광주민주화운동, 촛불혁명 등을 이끈 역사의 거울이라고 평가할 수 있다.
