This paper is an exploration of what can be set as the interest or essence of the work flowing under the stream of the sulyugmundab. In one side of the discussion, the tokkijeon(토 끼전) to which this version belongs was too attracted to the society of the late Joseon Dynasty, and the discussion developed. It is true that this discussion played an important role in faithfully revealing the meaning of the era of the work called The tokkijeon(토끼전), to which the sulyugmundab Answer belongs. However, it is believed that one side of the study has exposed its limitations in that it has not been able to achieve a thorough exploration of what elements were used as the basis of the work to form the undercurrent of the meaning of the era of the work. In this paper, in order to solve this point, the fundamental problem in the work is the human body, and the work theory is developed. It seems that the fable novel genre itself to which this work belongs had no choice but to have an interest in the human body. In the work, situations that show different situations and perceptions of the body continue to appear. This is proof that there is no choice but to consider the body as the basis for composing the work. Although the subject discussed in this paper has certain limitations by limiting it to one version of the sulyugmundab(수륙문답), the task is to expand the subject of consideration in future discussions and to apply the results obtained in this paper to confirm what the story of the tokkijeon(토끼전) like as a whole.

본고는 수륙문답의 저류에 흐르는 작품의 관심사나 본질은 무엇으로 설정할 수 있을지에 대한 탐색이다. 한쪽의 논의에서 이 이본이 속한 토끼전은 조선 후기라는 사회에 너무 견인되어 논의를 전개했다. 이런 논의는 수륙문답이 속한 토끼전이라는 작품의 시대적인 의미를 충실하게 드러내는 데에 중요한 역할을 한 것이 사실이다. 하지만 작품의 시대적인 의미의 저류를 이루는 것으로 어떤 요소를 작품의 바탕으로 삼았는가에 대해서는 한쪽의 연구가 철저한 탐색을 이루어내지 못했다는 한계를 노출했다고 본다. 본고에서는 이런 점을 해결해 보고자 작품에서 근본적으로 문제 삼는 것을 인간의 ‘몸’이라는 것으로 보고 작품론을 전개한다. 이 작품이 속한 우화소설 장르 자체가 인간의 몸에 대한 관심을 가질 수밖에 없었다고 본다. 작품에서는 몸을 두고 각기 다른 처지와 인식을 보여주는 상황이 계속해서 나타난다. 이는 작품을 구성하는 기반으로 몸을 고려하지 않을 수밖에 없음을 보여주는 증거이다. 본고에서 논의한 대상이 수륙문답이라는 하나의 이본에 한정함으로써 일정한 한계를 가지지만, 앞으로의 논의로 고찰 대상을 확대하고 본고가 얻은 결과를 적용해 보아 토끼전 전체가 어떤 모습을 보이는지를 확인하는 것이 과제로 남아있다.
