This study proceeds from my practical works, through philosophical, psychological, and pastoral theological conceptualization of forgiveness, to its application into the pastoral context, thereby following the pastoral theological method, to investigate the issue of forgiveness. Forgiveness, though it locates at the center of Christian theology and ethics, has attracted only minor attention in the field of pastoral care and counseling due to the influence of the clinical psychology. It is remarkable, however, that psychology of forgiveness and forgiveness therapy have empirically demonstrated the healing effects of forgiveness. Recently in the field of philosophy there surfaced active discussions on forgiveness as well. This study deals with various issues related to forgiveness for young offenders sent to Juvenile Classification and Detention Centers by juvenile courts. For young offenders at these centers the topic of forgiveness turns out to be sensitive and complex. Forgiveness, however, may be very familiar to them with regard to juvenile adjudication. Moreover, they may have the dual identity, as victims and victimizers, and forgiveness is one of significant topics which deals with in an integral way this dual identity as victims and victimizers. Successful communication of the complex and multilateral features of forgiveness within the framework of healing of trauma will exert positive effects on recovery and growth of young offenders at juvenile centers. This study discusses various issues about forgiveness in my pastoral context(II), and investigates philosophical, psychological, and pastoral theological theories on forgiveness(III), and reveals the meanings of forgiveness for young offenders at juvenile centers. In conclusion, this study defines forgiveness as a miraculous, instantaneous, and unconditional gift given to the injurers by the victims on the basis of their own free choice, and as being discovered and experienced when they themselves as the injurers feel sorry for their victims and identify their own pains with those of their victims.

본고는 상담 사례(실천)로부터 출발해서 철학과 심리학과 목회신학의 용서 개념(이 론)을 다루고 목회현장에 적용하는(실천) 목회신학 방법론에 따라 용서의 주제를 고 찰한다. 용서는 기독교 신학과 윤리의 핵심에 자리 잡고 있지만, 목회돌봄과 상담 영 역에서는 임상 심리학의 영향으로 소극적으로 다뤄졌다. 하지만 용서 심리학과 용서 치료는 용서의 치유적인 효과를 경험적으로 증명했다. 최근에는 철학 분야에서도 용 서에 대한 논의가 활발하게 이루어졌다. 본고는 잘못을 저질러 법원의 심리를 받아 보호기관에 수용된 위기청소년을 중심 으로 용서를 다룬다. 보호기관 원생들에게 용서는 매우 민감하고 복잡한 주제일 수 있다. 하지만 법원의 보호처분과 관련해서 용서는 이 원생들에게 가깝게 와닿는 주제 라고 볼 수 있다. 또한 이들은 피해자와 가해자의 양면을 지닐 수 있고, 용서는 피해 자와 가해자의 양면적인 정체성을 모두 다룰 수 있는 중요한 주제이다. 트라우마 치 유의 틀 안에서 용서가 지닌 복합적이고 다층적인 측면을 종합적으로 제시한다면 보 호기관 원생들의 회복과 성장에 긍정적인 효과를 미칠 수 있다. 본고는 먼저 연구자의 목회 상황에서 용서의 의미를 논의하고(II), 용서에 대한 철 학과 심리학과 목회신학 이론을 탐구하며(III), 보호기관 원생에게서 용서의 의미를 규 명한다(IV). 결론적으로 이 연구는 보호시설 원생에게 용서는 가해자에게서 받은 트라우마의 치유 과정을 통해 피해자가 자유로운 선택으로 가해자에게 베푸는 기적적이 고 순간적인 무조건적인 선물이며, 자신이 다른 사람에 대한 가해자로서 책임을 느끼 고 피해자의 고통을 자신의 고통과 연결할 때 발견되고 경험된다고 밝힌다.
