The Sunhak Peace Prize was founded by Dr. Hak Ja Han in order to honor the lifetime dedication of the late Rev. Sun Myung Moon to realize world peace. Dr. Han and Rev. Moon’s vision of peace was for the world to live as One Family Under God by forming a peaceful global community, and the Sunhak Peace Prize was established as a movement toward that goal. The first award ceremony was held in 2015 under the theme of Climate Crisis and the fifth award ceremony was held in 2022. The aims of this study were to discuss how the concept of community evolved in history, examine the achievements and characteristics of the Sunhak Peace Prize laureates, and to make three proposals toward a global community that is both peaceful and sustainable. The three proposals were: institutionalization for the purpose of peace; pursuit of a sense of community and expansion of global citizenship; and extending the role of global governance as the main activist in the international community. In the end, peace is practiced in daily lives, and therefore it is important that individuals become peace-loving citizens who spread a culture of peace in their communities through action.

선학평화상은 고 문선명 선생의 평화세계 구현을 위한 헌신적 삶을 기리기 위해 한학자 선생의 의해 설립되었다. 양위분의 평화비전은 ‘인류 한가족’ 세계평화공동 체의 구현이며 선학평화상은 그 실천활동의 하나이다. 2015년 제1회 기후위기를 시 상테마로 시작하여 2022년 5회까지 진행하였다. 역사적으로 공동체를 위한 탐구와 수상자들의 업적과 특징을 살펴보고 지속가능한 세계평화공동체를 위해 3가지 제언 을 하였다. 첫째, 목적으로서의 평화를 위한 제도화 둘째, 공동체의식의 추구와 세계 시민의식의 확장 셋째, 국제사회에서 주요행위자로 글로벌 거버넌스의 역할 확대를 제안한다. 그러나 결국은 개인의 삶을 통해 구현되므로 각자가 우리라는 공동체 의 식으로 평화문화를 확산시켜나가는 ‘평화인’으로 사는 것이 중요하다.
