This paper aims to confirm the aspect of the state examination stories in Eouyadam and to reveal its characteristics and significance. To this end, after the state examination stories in Eouyadam were categorized into three points, its characteristic points were stated. First, in some anecdotes, answer papers of well-known classical scholars were used to prove their literary talent. In these anecdotes, the realistic aspects were more noticeable than the fictional elements or satirical features. And it was possible to confirm information about the test or test questions in detail through the mentioned writings of answer papers in anecdotes, which were written in the examination site. Second, Yu Mong-in’s critical perspective was definite in the anecdotes about the restriction on the exam from the class system during the reign of King Jungjong and King Myeongjong. In addition, by describing the atmosphere of the time, the anecdotes showed that the class system of this period was fluctuating. Third, anecdotes about the custom of exam had a satirical salient feature. It reflects the atmosphere of the exam of the time, regardless of whether it’s true or not. In particular, it was possible to identify the trend of the examination site through the scenes of the exam’s oral test and returning the answer sheets in the reign of King Jungjong and King Seonjo. These characteristics show an intensive realism and a factuality by demonstrating clear critical minds about the exam compared to the state examination stories of other Yadam collections.

이 글의 목적은 於于野談의 ‘科擧談’ 양상을 확인하고 그 특징과 의의를 밝히는 데에 있다. 이를 위해 어우야담에 담긴 과거담을 3가지로 유형화하여 특징점을 개진하였다. 첫째, 名士의 文才를 증명하기 위해 그들이 과장에서 작성한 科文을 활용하였다. 이들 일화에서는 꾸며낸 이야기나 풍자적 성격보다는 사실적인 면모가 강하였다. 더욱이 언급된 작품은 모두 시험장에서 작성된 科文이며 이를 통해 시험정보나 試 題와 같은 구체성도 확인할 수 있었다. 둘째, 중종·명종 연간의 신분제에 따른 응시 제한과 관련된 일화에서는 유몽인의 비판적 시각이 뚜렷하였다. 또한 당대 분위기를 서술함으로써 이 시기의 신분제가 混淆되고 있음을 반영하였다. 셋째, 응시문화와 관련된 일화에서는 풍자적 성격이 강하였다. 이는 사실 여부를 떠나 당대 시험과 관련된 분위기를 엿볼 수 있으며, 특히 중종·선조 연간의 講經과 收券과 같은 문제를 통해 시험장 풍조를 확인할 수가 있었다. 이러한 특징은 여타 야담집의 과거담과 비교했을 때 과거에 대한 뚜렷한 문제의 식을 지니고 있다는 점에서 사실성과 함께 진실성이 강조되는 의의가 있다.
