This study empirically verifies the fear of crime victims in terms of personal factors such as crime victim experience and vulnerability to crime and environmental factors of adaptation to South Korean society. To achieve the purpose of this study, a self-report questionnaire was conducted on North Korean defectors, and the results of the study are as follows. First, gender, age, and marital status were investigated as factors affecting the fear of crime victims. Second, personal factors such as crime victim experience and crime vulnerability were also investigated as factors affecting the fear of crime victimization. Finally, as a result of examining the interaction of personal factors and adaptation to South Korean society, it was confirmed that the fear of crime victims of North Korean defectors was reduced. Based on the results of this study, it was found that adapting to a new society reduces the fear of crime victimization of North Korean defectors, even if they experience crime and perceive themselves as vulnerable to crime. Therefore, it was confirmed how important it is for North Korean defectors to adapt to and support the newly settled South Korean society. Based on the results of this study, I would like to discuss policy on the settlement of North Korean defectors in South Korean society. In addition, it is expected that the results of this study will be used as data on North Korean defectors' adaptation to South Korean society and as basic data for public security policy.

이 연구는 북한이탈주민의 범죄피해 경험과 범죄취약성 등의 개인적 요인과 한국 사회에 대한 적응의 환경적 요인에 있어서 범죄피해 두려움을 실증적으로 검증하였다. 이러한 연구의목적을 달성하고자 북한이탈주민을 대상으로 자기기입식 설문조사를 진 행하였으며, 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 성별, 연령, 혼인여부는 범죄피해두려움에 있어서 영향을 미치는 요인으로 조사되었다. 둘째, 범죄피해 경험과 범죄취약성 등의 개인적 요인 역시 범죄피해 두려움에 영향을 미치는 요인으로 조사되었다. 마지막으로 개인적 요인과 한국사회에대한 적응의 상호작용을 검증한 결과, 북한이탈주민의범죄 피해 두려움을 감소시키는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 연구결과로 보아, 북한이탈 주민의 범죄피해 두려움에 있어서 범죄피해를 경험하여도 그리고 범죄에 대하여 스스 로 취약하다고 인지하여도, 새로운 사회에 대한 적응은 이들의 범죄피해 두려움을감소 시키는 것을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 북한이탈주민에게 있어서는 새롭게 정착하는 한국 사회에 대한 적응 및 지원 등이 이들에게는 얼마나 중요한 것인지를 확인하였다. 이 연구의 결과를 토대로 북한이탈주민의 한국 사회에 대한 정착에 있어서 정책적 논의를 하고자 한다. 또한 이 연구결과는 북한이탈주민의 한국 사회에 대한 적응에 관한 자료 및 치안정책의 기초 자료로 활용되리라 생각된다.
