영화 <이상한 나라의 수학자>에 나타난 상상력 — 수의 이미지와 공간의 상징을 중심으로

The movie “In Our Prime”(2022) was composed of images using mathematical pixels due to the nature of the material. Introducing mathematical imagination in the spatial interpretation of this film not only changes the structural context of text and the breadth of meaning delivery, but also causes a significant gap in the meaning of video images. While the use of geometry and spatial imagination are the main factors that determine the character’s narrative and visual aesthetics, this exploration has not received much attention as a method of analyzing film text. It is necessary to introduce imagination based on convergence in order to explore art consisting of convergence and compounding of various disciplines. The arithmetic approach to the things dealt with as the subject matter of the text is particularly useful for grasping the in-depth meaning of the geometric composition of space in this film. Introducing the four elemental imagination of Bachelard, a philosopher who dynamically insights art based on mathematics and science, the thematic approach of Euler’s formula numbers ‘e, i, -1, π’ which serve as the background theory of the text, and the study of school and transportation space. Expansion of interpretation is possible. Based on the imagination shown in the movie “In Our Prime”, this article analyzed the narrative meaning and symbol of the numbers that make up Euler’s formula, and the aesthetic expression method of text space. In addition, the purpose of research is the relationship between mathematical pixels of text using imagination and geometric images. Above all, it is significant that the introduction and use of mathematical imagination presents a methodology that contributes to the qualitative improvement of film analysis.

영화 <이상한 나라의 수학자>는 소재의 특성상 수학적 화소가 활용되어 이미지가 구성되었다. 이 영화의 공간 해석에서 수학적 상상력을 도입하면 텍스트의 구조적 맥락과 의미 전달의 폭이 달라질 뿐만 아니라 영상 이미지의 의미 격차를 현저히 발생시킨다. 기하학과 공간적 상상력의 활용이 인물의 서사와 영상미학을 결정하는 주요 요소인 것에 비해서 이러한 탐색은 영화 텍스트 분석 방식으로 크게 주목받지 못했다. 다양한 학문의 융합과 복합으로 이루어진 예술 탐구를 위해서는 융복합에 기반한 상상력 도입이 필요하다. 텍스트의 소재로 다루어진 것들에 대한 산술적 접근은 특히 이 영화에서 공간의 기하학적 구도에 대한 깊이 있는 의미 파악에 유용하다. 수학과 과학을 기반으로 예술을 역동적으로 통찰한 철학자 바슐라르의 4 원소적 상상력을 도입하면, 텍스트의 배경 이론이 되는 오일러 공식의 수들 ‘e, i, -1, π’의 주제적 접근과 학교·교통 공간에 대한 해석의 확장이 가능해진다. 이 글은 영화 <이상한 나라의 수학자>에 나타난 상상력을 토대로 오일러 공식을 이루는 수의 서사적 의미와 상징, 텍스트 공간의 미학적 표현 방식을 분석하였다. 또한, 상상력을 활용한 텍스트의 수학적 화소와 기하학적 이미지의 관련성을 연구 목적으로 한다. 무엇보다 수학적 상상력의 도입과 활용이 영화 분석의 질적 향상에 기여하는 방법론을 제시한다는 의의를 지닌다.

    한국문예창작학회(The Society of Korean Literary Creative Writing)는 한국 문학의 새 지평을 열기 위해 문예창작 이론과 문예교육 이론을 연구 계발하여 문 예창작의 새로운 방향을 제시하고자 조직한 학술단체입니다. 전국 대학과 대학원 문예창작 관련학과의 전·현직 전임교수·겸임(초빙)교수· 강 사·대학원 재학 이상자 및 문예창작인들이 회원으로 활동하고 있습니다. 학회의 목적에 적극적으로 동의하는 문학 관련 단체나 문학창작 동호인도 준회원으로 참 여하고 있습니다. 연 2회 학회지를 발간해 학문적 기반을 닦고 있으며, 정기적으로 학술 세미나 와 해외 문학 심포지엄 등 학술 발표회를 개최하여 학문적 교류와 토론의 장을 넓히고 있습니다. 한편으로, 문예창작 캠프·문학기행 등의 창작교육 활동과 창작 학습 행사를 수 시로 진행하면서, 창작·창작이론·창작교육에 관한 활동의 범위를 넓히고 있습니다. 별도로, 문예창작 교육을 받은 문예창작학도들의 진로 개발을 위해 '문예교육지도 교사 자격 시험'도 운영하고 있습니다. The Society of Korean Literary Creative Writing is a pure academic association for the literary cretive writing, and was organized on November 11, 2001 for the purpose of presenting the new direction of literary creative writing by studying all the methods to activate and develop the theories of literary creative writing and its education. Our society is composed of professors or ex-professors, some invited professor, lecturers, graduate students of the dept. of literary creative writing as regular members, and the persons interested in our program as associative members. Our society holds an annual academic meeting-- literary symposium, literary creative writing seminar-- and publishes the journal of our society and our members' anthology of literary works. Added to these, our society has already started a new project to open the way for our literary juniors by providing them with a certificate as a leader and holding a forum for literary creative writing.
