Beginning of the Era of Daily Newspapers during the Japanese Colonial Period and Mt. Geumgang - Focusing on <the Dong-A Ilbo> and <the Chosun Ilbo> in the 1920s -
This paper explores the aspects of Mt. Geumgang reported in and during the Japanese colonial period in the 1920s. During that time, Mt. Geumgang was rapidly modernized. While the previous travel route to Mt. Geumgang established in the late Joseon Dynasty was maintained, the pre-modern methods of mobility, that is, horses and walking, were replaced with modern forms such as electric trains, steam locomotives, steamboats, and automobiles. Concerning the development of Mt. Geumgang, the Japanese Government General did not consider Joseon seriously. Meanwhile, for the people of Joseon at that time, Mt. Geumgang had a meaning they wanted to see, be immersed in, and feel. and competitively reported on Mt. Geumgang and serialized travel journals by famous writers, even operating group sightseeing tours to the mountain, respectively. Behind such actions, there was a growing justification that all citizens had to know, love, and experience Mt. Geumgang to restore national pride.
