The Army has established and operated military departments at 12 universities so far for the purpose of systemizing military science as a discipline and stably obtaining elite beginner officers. These universities have developed their own military department operating system and have continued to develop a lot, but due to the nature of the subject of military education, they are differentiated and proceed in a similar form rather than creative content. The purpose of this paper is to present the development direction of military science education by comparing and analyzing the operation status of military science through literature research on the military education system and general university military education system and in-depth interviews with university professors and military officers. This suggests that the Ministry of National Defense, Army Headquarters, and general universities that operate military departments are expected to play a major role in ultimately developing our military by providing new incentives for competition in good faith to officers.

한국 육군에서는 군사학을 학문으로 체계화하고 정예 초급장교를 안정적으로 획득할 목적 으로 현재까지 12개 대학에 군사학과를 설치하여 운영 중이다. 이들 대학은 나름대로 군사 학과 운영시스템을 발전시켜 많은 발전을 거듭해왔으나 군사학 교육이라는 과목의 특성상 차별화되고 창의적인 내용보다는 거의 유사한 형태로 진행되고 있다. 이에 본 논문의 목적 은 한국의 각 사관학교 교육체계와 일반대학 군사학과 교육체계에 대한 문헌연구와 군사학 과를 운영 중인 대학교수 및 군사학과를 졸업한 장교 등과 심층 면담을 통해 일반대학 군사 학과 운영실태를 비교 분석함으로써 군사학과 교육에 대한 발전방향을 제시하는데 있다. 이를 통해 국방부와 육군본부, 군사학과를 운영 중인 일반대학에서 보완해야 할 과제를 제시하고 나아가 일반대학 군사학과도 장교양성을 위한 하나의 축으로써 다른 출신 장교들 에게 선의의 경쟁을 위한 새로운 동기를 부여함으로써 궁극적으로 우리 군을 발전시키는데 큰 역할을 기대하는 시사점이 있다.
