This paper studies the effect of financial supports on exporting firms‘ performance in Korea between 2001 and 2019. I estimate a dummy variable for financial support on an individual firm. In the analysis model, I add the interaction term with the dummy variables of financial support and exporting status. In the model, firm’s performance is measured by sales and operating profits which are used as dependent variables. According to the analysis, exporting firms which received financial supports improve their sales and operating profits during the sample period of 2001-2019 and the effect of financial supports is greater for small-medium firms rather than big firms. In addition, I also analyze the effect of financial supports for firms after the global financial crisis in 2008. As a result, small-medium firms with financial supports have more sales and operating profits after the global financial crisis in 2008 compared to the whole sample period. Lastly, I examine whether the effect of finanical supports differs by firm’s exporting status. That is, I divide exporting firms into two groups: incumbent exporting firms and new exporting firms. As a result, financial supports contribute to improving sales and operating profits of incumbent exporting firms rather than new exporting firms. Based on the analysis, I argue that the government’s financial support policy works well for small-medium firms in terms of more sales and profits and it matches well with the policy purpose. Moreover, even though the effect of financial supports is not detected immediately, the government financial support must be provided to new exporting firms.

본 연구는 개별기업에 대한 금융지원이 우리나라 수출기업의 성과에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 이를 위하여 먼저 개별기업에 대한 금융지원 더미변수를 추정하였다. 분석 결과, 분석대상 기간인 2001∼2019년 중 금융지원을 받은 수출기업은 매출액과 영업이익이 유의하게 개선되었고, 이러한 금융지원의 효과는 대기업보다는 중소기업에 대하여 더욱 크게 나타났다. 또한 2008년 글로벌 금융위 기 이후의 기간에 대하여 추가로 분석한 결과, 금융지원을 받은 중소기업의 매출액과 영업이익 개선효과는 전체기간과 비교해 더 크 게 나타났다. 마지막으로 금융지원이 기업의 수출 지속 여부에 따라 다른 효과를 보이는지 분석하기 위하여 신규수출기업과 계속수출 기업으로 나누어 분석한 결과, 금융지원은 신규수출기업보다는 계속수출기업의 성과 개선에 더 큰 효과가 나타난 것으로 보인다. 이 러한 분석결과를 바탕으로, 정부의 금융지원 정책이 금융접근성이 낮은 수출중소기업의 성과에 더 큰 효과를 보인다는 점에서 정책 목적에 부합하여 운용된다고 판단된다. 또한 신규수출기업의 경우에는 금융지원의 효과가 유의하게 나타나지 않음에도 불구하고 지 속적인 지원을 통하여 시장 확대를 통한 성장이 가능하도록 지원해야 할 것으로 판단된다.
