The purpose of this paper is to contribute to the overseas expansion of Korean banks by analyzing the Vietnamese banking industry using structural methodology. To this end, the concentration and competition of the Vietnamese banking industry were analyzed, and the concentration and competition of the banking industry in Thailand and the Philippines were compared and measured. This competition analysis is also related to the restructuring of the country, so it summarizes the changes in the structure of the banking industry since Vietnam's reform and opening in 1986. On the other hand, banks in Thailand and the Philippines, which can be called regional competitors, show a rather low level of competition compared to Vietnam. This can be seen as a result of Thailand and the Philippines protecting their banking industries and maintaining the oligopoly of some large banks. In this situation, this paper was able to see in depth the reality of the banking industry in these countries by comparing and analyzing the competitiveness of Vietnam, Thailand, and Philippine banks. And as a result of the analysis, it was clear that foreign banks, including Korean banks, had great restrictions on opening branches or establishing local corporations. Based on these implications, it can be suggested that Korean banks should more closely examine the type of entry and type of business if they want to enter Vietnam.

본 논문의 목적은 구조적 방법론을 활용하여 베트남의 은행산업을 분석 함으로써 한국계 은행의 해외 진출에 이바지하는 것이다. 이를 위해 베트 남의 은행산업의 집중도와 경쟁도를 분석하고, 태국과 필리핀 은행산업의 집중도와 경쟁도를 비교, 측정하였다. 이러한 경쟁도 분석은 그 나라의 구 조조정과도 유관하기에 1986년 베트남의 개혁개방 이후 은행산업의 구조 의 변화에 대해서도 정리하였다. 한편, 역내 경쟁국이라 할 수 있는 태국과 필리핀의 은행들은 베트남과 비교하여 오히려 경쟁도가 떨어지는 모습을 보인다. 이는 태국과 필리핀은 자국 은행산업을 보호하고 일부 대형은행의 과점체제가 유지된 결과로 볼 수 있다. 이 같은 상황에서, 본 논문은 베트남, 태국, 필리핀 은행의 경쟁도를 비교 분석함으로써 이들 국가의 은행산업의 현실을 깊이 있게 볼 수 있 었다. 그리고 분석 결과 한국계 은행을 포함한 외국계 은행이 지점을 개설 하거나, 현지 법인 설립을 하는데 분명 제약이 큼도 알아볼 수 있었다. 이런 시사점을 바탕으로 한국계 은행들은 베트남에 진출하고자 할 때 진출 유형, 비즈니스 형태 등을 더욱 면밀하게 검토해야 한다는 점을 제안 할 수 있겠다.
