A study on the social responsibility and design values to create new values by solving our various social problems is also required in the field of bag design. Therefore, the ultimate purpose of this study is to prove that bag design can contribute to society with the concept of 'social design' developed from sustainable design. This study analyzed the theoretical considerations on the concept and development direction of social design and bag design cases in which social design appears. This research method derived the social design of bag design through the analysis of design realization methods for each of the four types of bag design cases of Nigel Whiteley, and quantitatively evaluates the social design applied to the bag design cases as a design thinking application evaluation list. The usefulness of design thinking evaluation is considered by analyzing the correlation between the consumer side and the idea side through the quantitative evaluation result. First, the results of this study showed that it is possible to recognize social problems through bag design and realize social values through solutions to those problems. Second, the usefulness of design thinking application evaluation was demonstrated as a bag design evaluation method. Through this, social design is proposed as a new value of bag design that considers not only bag product design but also service for creating consumer experience. Third, if we change our perspective on bag design with social design concept in which individuals, companies, and the environment are the main actors, it will be possible to participate in making a better society through bag design. This study hopes that social design will not disappear as a trend, but will have an overall influence on the field of bag design in the future, and it is expected that it will be helpful in the development of bag design research.

우리의 다양한 사회문제를 해결하여 새로운 가치를 만들어내는 사회적 책임과 디자인 가치관에 대한 연구 가 가방 디자인 분야에서도 요구된다. 이에 본 연구는 지속 가능한 디자인으로부터 발전된 ‘사회적 디자인' 개념으로 가방 디자인이 사회에 기여할 수 있음을 입증하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 본 연구는 사회적 디자인 의 개념과 발전 방향에 대한 이론적 고찰에 기반하여 사회적 디자인이 나타난 가방 디자인 사례들을 분석하 였다. 연구 방법으로 나이젤 휘틀리의 사회적 디자인의 네 가지 유형별로 나타난 가방 디자인 사례를 디자인 실현 방법 분석을 통해 가방 디자인의 사회적 디자인으로 도출하고, 가방 디자인 사례에 적용된 사회적 디자 인을 디자인 씽킹 적용평가 리스트로 정량 평가하였다. 그 정량 평가 결과를 통한 소비자의 측면과 아이디어 측면의 상관분석으로 디자인 씽킹 평가의 유용성을 고찰하였다. 본 연구 결과는 첫째, 가방 디자인으로 사회 의 문제를 인식하고, 그 문제점의 해결 방안을 통해 사회적 가치 실현이 가능하다는 것을 보여주었다. 둘째, 가방 디자인의 평가 방법으로 디자인 씽킹 적용평가의 유용성을 입증하였다. 이를 통해 가방 제품 디자인뿐 만 아니라 소비자 경험 창조를 위한 서비스까지 고려하는 가방 디자인의 새로운 가치로서 사회적 디자인을 제안하였다. 셋째, 개인, 기업, 환경이 주체가 되는 사회적 디자인의 개념으로 가방 디자인을 바라보는 관점 을 변화시켰다. 이로써 가방 디자인으로 더 나은 사회를 만들기 위한 참여가 가능함을 고찰하였다. 본 연구는 사회적 디자인이 하나의 트렌드로 사라지는 것이 아니라 앞으로 가방 디자인 분야에 전반적으로 영향력을 갖길 바라며 가방 디자인 연구 발전에 도움이 되기를 기대한다.
