I have looked at the works of Kang Hyun-duk, who achieved remarkable achievement in modern sijo poetics, from the perspective of ecofeminism. Kang’s poems show a simple and restrained image in terms of the restoration and practice of femininity, and also show affinity with ecological literature in that she reflects on herself on the basis of the natural ecosystem. The reason for using ecofeminism as a methodology for analyzing these works is because of the socio-ecological background of the 21st century, where the key words of nature, women, and ecology are still important. If we pay attention to the fact that poets’ works are differentiated by new thematic consciousness and emotion while maintaining the original identity of sijo, which boasts a long history and tradition, we think that it is necessary to understand how modern value and thematic consciousness are realized in the works of women sijo poets. I categorized and analyzed the poet’s work in three aspects and suggested a new approach to modern sijo. First, it aims for ecotopia through communication with nature and organic self. Second, it shows insight into the value and vitality of women’s lives, and third, it shows the realization of ecological egalitarianism and spirituality that actively understands the interrelated network of life on earth. Kang Hyun-duk’s work contributed to expanding the newly differentiated appearance of modern sijo by embodying the mutual relationship between nature and human beings, the consciousness of equality and the restoration of spirituality for all things. Based on my discussion, I tried a new approach to the poet of modern women’s sijo and could look at the method of creation and modern poetic consciousness of those who have overlooked it.

필자는 현대 시조 문단에서 주목할 성취를 이룩한 강현덕 시인의 작품 을 에코페미니즘의 관점에서 조망하였다. 그녀의 시는 여성성의 회복과 실천이라는 측면에서 단아하고 절제된 이미지를 보여줄 뿐 아니라 자연 생태계의 모습을 통해 자신을 존재론적으로 성찰하고 있다는 점에서 생 태 문학과의 친연성을 보여준다. 작품을 분석하는 방법론으로서 에코페미 니즘에 다시 주목하는 것은 자연과 여성, 생태라는 키워드가 여전히 중요 한 21세기의 사회 생태학적 배경 때문이기도 하다. 유구한 역사와 전통을 자랑하는 시조의 본래적 정체성을 유지하면서 새로운 주제 의식과 감성 으로 시인들의 작품이 많이 분화되었다는 점에 주목한다면, 여성 시조 시 인의 작품에 현대적 가치와 주제 의식이 어떻게 구현되고 있는지를 파악 할 필요가 있다고 생각한다. 필자는 시인의 작품을 세 가지 측면에서 유형화시켜 분석하고 현대 시 조의 새로운 접근 방법을 제시하였다. 그것은 첫째, 자연과의 교감과 유기 체적 자아를 통해 에코토피아를 지향한다는 점이며 둘째, 여성의 몸을 대 상으로 여성적 삶의 가치와 생명력에 대한 통찰을 보여준다는 점, 셋째, 지구상의 생명체의 상호 관계망을 적극적으로 이해하는 생태 평등주의와 영성(靈性)의 구현을 보여준다는 점이다. 강현덕의 작품은 자연과 인간의 상호 관계, 만물에 대한 평등의식과 영 성의 회복 등에 대해 형상화 시킴으로써 새롭게 분화된 현대 시조의 외연 을 확장하는데 기여했다고 생각한다. 필자의 논의를 바탕으로 현대 여성 시조 시인에 대한 새로운 접근을 시도하고 그동안 간과했던 이들의 창작 방법과 현대적인 시 의식을 조망할 수 있었다.
