This study compared the composition method of Hangyeongsa with a group of works created for Seoul from the late 18th century to the early 19th century, and revealed the characteristics of the creative method of Hangyeongsa. Based on this, I analyzed the way Kang I-cheon shaped Seoul in the late 18th century. He created Hangyeongsa in a way to express freely associated materials in poetry based on the theme of Seoul and the form of seven words and phrases. Also, unlike the group of works created for Seoul at the same time as Hangyeongsa, Kang created poems based on various aspects of people living in Seoul at the same time. The reason why the poem was created in this way is that Seoul’s attractions were limited, and the colorful images of Seoul could not be expressed only with the attributes of the place. Kang Icheon’s way of shaping Seoul in Hangyeongsa can be divided into three. The first is images expressed based on the symbolism and location of Seoul. Kang accepted the image expression method of Seoul, which had been passed down from the early Joseon Dynasty, and expressed Seoul as a space where peace and prosperity are realized. The second is expressing the appearances and stories of people of various classes and occupations in the compressed form of seven words and phrases. He used this method to reveal various aspects of Seoul. The third is the expression of the image of Seoul through a representational space created based on the cultural relics of Seoul that he directly or indirectly experienced. Kang expressed colorful images of Seoul through imaginary spaces created based on his experiences. As such, Hangyeongsa is significant in that it expresses various aspects of Seoul by introducing a new creative method while continuing Kang I-cheon’s existing method of expressing the image of Seoul.

본고는 18세기 후반~19세기 초반에 서울을 대상으로 창작된 작품군과 <한경사(漢京詞)>를 비교하여 <한경사>의 창작 방식을 밝히고, 이를 바 탕으로 강이천이 <한경사>에서 18세기 후반 서울의 모습을 형상화한 방 법을 분석하였다. <한경사>는 강이천이 서울이라는 대주제를 바탕으로 자유롭게 연상되 는 소재를 106수의 연작시로 창작한 작품이다. 강이천은 조선 전기부터 이어져 온, 서울의 상징성과 장소성을 기반으로 서울의 이미지를 형상화 한 방식을 수용하면서, 동시대에 서울에서 살아가는 사람들의 다양한 모 습을 소재로 <한경사>를 창작하였다. 강이천이 이러한 방법으로 시를 창 작한 이유는 서울의 명소는 한정되어 있으며, 그 장소의 속성만으로는 서울의 다채로운 이미지를 표현할 수 없기 때문이다. 강이천이 <한경사>에서 서울을 형상화한 방식은 세 가지로 나눌 수 있는데, 첫 번째 방법은 서울의 상징성과 장소성을 바탕으로 그 이미지를 표현했다는 점이다. 그는 조선 전기부터 이어져 온 서울의 이미지 표현 방식을 수용하여 번화하면서도 태평성대가 실현되는 공간으로 서울을 표 현하였다. 두 번째 방법은 다양한 계층과 직업군의 인물과 그들의 사연을 칠언절구(七言絶句)의 형식에 맞춰 압축적으로 나타낸 것이다. 강이천은 이러한 방법을 서울의 다양한 면모를 드러냈다. 세 번째 방법은 강이천이 직간접으로 체험한 서울의 문물과 그의 상상력을 기반으로 만든 시적 표 상 공간을 통해 서울의 이미지를 표현한 것이다. 강이천은 경험과 상상을 기반으로 만들어낸 공간을 통해 서울의 다채로운 이미지를 표현하였다. 이처럼 <한경사>는, 강이천이 서울의 이미지를 표현하는 기존의 방식을 수용하면서도 새로운 창작 방식을 도입하여 서울의 다양한 면모를 표현 하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.
