This article was written to systematize and record the history of University festivals and related events held together during university festivals at universities in Chuncheon, Gangwon-do. The covered period and universities in this article were limited to Sungsim Women's University, Chuncheon National University of Education, and Kangwon National University, which grew based in Chuncheon after the Korean War, and related contents were studied using various newspapers, magazines, historical materials and interviews. University festivals and university cultural events have now become festivals only for students. However, until the 1990s, when college students were fewer, university festivals and university cultural events were "community festivals" involving not only college students but also local residents. Now, university festivals and university cultural events have changed their status compared to the past, and only a few local residents and students are interested in. At this point, it is important to systematize and record university festivals and university cultural events in Chuncheon. This work means not only reminisce the past but also reflect on the culture of the university festival and give implications for how to organize the university festival in the future. It is expected that local universities can coexist with local residents and contribute to reflecting on the existence of local universities through this work.

이 글은 강원도 춘천 소재 대학에서 진행되었던 대학축제, 대학축제 때 함께 진행되었던 관련 문화행사의 기록을 체계화하고 정리한 것이다. 이 글에서 다룬 대상 시기는 한국전쟁 이후이며, 연구의 대상 대학은 춘천에 기반을 두고 성장했던 성심여대, 춘천교대, 강원대로 한정하였다. 그리고 해당 내용은 각종 신문, 잡지, 사료(史料) 등을 활용하며 살펴보았다. 대학축제나 대학의 문화행사는 이제 대학 재학생들만 참여하는 축제가 되었다. 그러나 대학생이 희소했던 1990년대 이전까지만 해도 대학축제와 대학의 문화행사는 지역민 모두가 참여하는 ‘지역 공동의 축제’였다. 이제 과거와 비교해 볼 때, 대학축제와 대학의 문화행사에 관심을 갖는 일반인은 거의 없고, 심지어 재학생들에게조차 외면받고 있다. 이 시점에서 대학축제와 대학 문화행사를 체계화하고 기록화하는 작업은 비단 춘천만의 일이 아니다. 이 작업은 단순히 과거를 추억하고 기억하는 것에 의미를 두는 것이 아니라, 그간의 대학축제 문화를 성찰하고 동시에 향후 대학축제의 방향을 설정하는 데 시사점을 줄 수 있다. 이를 통해서 지역 대학이 지역민들과 상생하며, 지역 대학의 존재가 어떠해야 하는지를 생각해 보는데 기여할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.
