The purpose of this article is to examine the process of establishing the Gyeongchun Line and to examine the humanistic value of Gyeongchun Line and the meaning of Gyeongchun Line as a future cultural heritage. The first thing that this article paid attention to was the opening process of the Gyeongchun Line. Unlike other regions, the Gyeongchun Line, which was opened in Japanese colonial era, was not organized by the Japanese Government-General of Korea, but was opened by active participation and demand from local residents. In this article, we paid attention to this point and reexamined the history and process of establishing the Gyeongchun Line. The next thing to note is the Seoul area of the old Gyeongchun Line. there are six stations in the Seoul area from Seongdong Station to Hwarangdae Station. Due to the urban regeneration project, work is underway to restore the value of Gyeongchun Line as a future cultural heritage. In this article, the current situation of six stations and various attempts to remember and restore the old Gyeongchun Line were examined.

이 글은 경춘선(京春線)의 설립 과정을 살펴보고, 경춘선이 지닌 인문학적 가치, 미래문화유산으로서 경춘선의 의미를 살펴보는 데 그 목적이 있다. 그 작업의 시작으로 옛 경춘선 전체 노선 중에서 서울권역만을 검토해 보았다. 이 글에서 먼저 주목한 것은 경춘선의 개통 과정이다. 일제강점기에 개통된 경춘선은 다른 지역과 달리 조선총독부에서 주관한 것이 아니라, 지역민들의 적극적인 참여와 요구로 개설되었다. 즉, 경춘선은 강원도민의 노력으로 설립된 것이었다. 이 글에서는 이 점에 주목하여 경춘선 설립의 역사와 과정 등을 살펴보았다. 다음으로 주목한 것은 옛 경춘선의 서울권역이다. 옛 경춘선은 단선(單線)으로 운영되었고 전체 24개 역을 통과해야만 했다. 전체 역은 소재지를 기준으로 서울권, 경기권, 강원권으로 구분할 수 있다. 이 중에서 서울권은 성동역부터 화랑대역까지 6개 역이다. 복선 전철화 사업으로 인하여 먼저 폐역이 된 구간은 서울권역이다. 그러나 이를 적극적으로 복원하고 재조명하려는 노력은 서울권역에서 이루어지고 있다. 특히 최근 도시재생사업의 일환으로, 지역문화자산, 미래문화유산의 측면에서 경춘선의 가치를 복원하는 작업이 진행되고 있다. 이 글에서는 이러한 현재 6개 역의 현황, 이를 기억하고 복원하기 위한 방안에 대해서도 살펴보았다.
