In Holistic theory of organisms, Taoism's worldview is similar to the ecological one. Taoism hold that Nature and Human society are connected with opposites. As all things in the universe we are connected with others in the great circle of Cosmic life. Everything in the universe is made up of the same substance as Qi energy(氣). A number of ecological sentences in Taoist texts encouraging respect for the Nature and environmental circumstances of all things. human being as all things is itself in its responsive attunement with the fluidity of natural process. All thing is one as same substance. each single being is potentially in accord with and complete in itself. Therefore all things in the universe are equal without discrimination The holism of Taoism is the dynamic interconnectedness of particulars. Human beings have no element of superiority to natural objects. There is self-generative logic of things, which is inherently naturalistic and environmental in cosmic fluid. These are the ecological characteristics of Taoism.

우리는 현재 인류의 과도한 환경파괴로 인해 지구환경의 균형이 무너지면서 닥치는 기후위기의 재앙을 목도하고 있다. 이런 기후위기는 현재 우리가 영위하는 문명의 전환을 강제하고 있다. 우리의 삶의 양식과 문명 구조를 시급하게 변혁하지 않는다면, 지구환경은 회복할 수 없는 수준의 파멸로 치닫게 될 것이다. 현재 이에 대한 여러 가지 대안이 모색되고 있다. 본고는 기후위기를 극복할 생태문명의 전환을 기획하는데 도가철학의 생태적 사유가 일정한 기여를 할 것으로 본다. 문제의 핵심은 인간이 인간 이외의 자연을 종속적이거나 배타적 이용대상으로 보는 이원론적 자연관에 있다. 이것은 인간중심주의적 세계관과 사유방식이다. 인간이 자연을 대상화하여 지배와 이용의 대상으로 여기는 세계관이 근본적으로 바뀌어야만 지구생태환경을 건강하게 회복할 수 있다. 이를 위해 자연과 인간을 동일한 생명의 연쇄로 이해하며, 우주만물이 다 평등하게 하나의 실체로 이루어진다는 도가철학의 세계관이 요청된다. 도가적 시각에서 보면, 지구의 동식물과 유기물 그리고 무기물은 근본적으로 동일한 실체인 기(氣)로 이루어진다. 그러므로 지구환경을 인간 개체의 생명과 동일한 몸이라는 사실을 자각하는 것에서부터 지구환경의 건강이 확보되며, 생태문명의 새로운 전환이 시작될 수 있다.
