The purpose of this study is to suggest the historical descriptive direction of Taekkyeon's technique and name. The conclusion of this is as follows. The historical descriptive direction of Taekkyeon and its clarity is needed so as not to confuse with the history of bare-handed martial arts. Therefore, in order to reduce the possibility of such misunderstandings or disputes in the future, it is necessary to clearly distinguish the previous history of Taekkyeon which is mentioned as just existence of bare-handed martial arts from renowned history of Taekkyeon led by Song Deok-ki to Shin Han-seung, which can be recognized by anyone under its technique. When it comes to terms, it can be seen that traces of Taekkyeon have continued steadily since the 14th year of King Jeongjo (1790), which is mentioned in Kim Min-soon's editorial sijo. Depending on the opinions, the term “Takwon”which appeared during the height of the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592, was later replaced by the term "Gwonbeop," and it was passed down as "Takgyeon" in the process of oral transmitting "Takwon“. In the later it would have been settled as a word referring to Taekkgyeon, a martial art focused on feet technique. Therefore, the origin of Taekkyeon can be explained by limiting its origin to the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592.

이 연구의 목적은 택견의 기법과 명칭의 역사 서술 방향을 제시하는 것이다. 이에 대한 결론은 다음과 같다. 맨손무예의 역사와 택견의 역사를 구분해서 사람들에게 혼란을 주지 않는 역사 서술의 방향과 명확성은 필요하다. 따라서 앞으로 이와 같은 오해 또는 분쟁의 소지를 줄이기 위해서는 기법상으로는 누구나 인정할 수 있는‘송덕기-신한승’으로 이어지는 택견의 역사를 중심으로 서술 하면서, 그 이전의 역사는 우리나라 맨손무예의 존재를 언급하는 선에서 서술하는 것으로 명확히 구분할 필요성이 있다. 용어상으로는 김민순의 사설시조에 언급하고 있는 정조 14년(1790)년 부터는 택견의 흔적이 꾸준하게 이어지고 있음을 알 수 있다. 견해에 따 라서는 택견의 어원이 임진왜란이 한창일 때 나타난‘타권(打拳)’이라 는 용어가 후에‘권법’이라는 용어로 대체되었는데, 이때‘타권’이 민 간에서 구전으로 전해지는 과정에서‘탁견’으로 전해졌고 그것이 발 중심의 무예인‘택견’을 가리키는 말로 정착되었을 것이다. 따라서 택 견의 기원을 임진왜란기로 한정하여 설명할 수 있다. 향후 모두 공감할 수 있는 택견의 올바른 역사 서술 방향을 찾아가야할 것이다.
