The purpose of this study was to discover unique natures of intake sessions in Nordoff-Robbins music therapy by qualitatively looking into Nordoff-Robbins music therapists’ lived experiences of intake sessions. To address the purpose, 7 certified Nordoff-Robbbins music therapists with years of clinical experiences were purposefully recruited as participants and interviewed in depth on their experiences of intake sessions. The interviewed data were then analyzed using Giorgi’s phenomenological research method. As the result, 2 components including “the purpose of intake sessions in Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy” and “interventions for intake sessions in Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy”, 5 sub-components and 19 meanings were produced. It was found that the purpose of intake sessions for the participants was to meet with the client’s music child as well as condition child so that they could establish therapeutic goals for the client. It was also found that the participants tried to invite the client to the musical environment, establish musical relationships with the client, and explore the client’s potentials through music in intake sessions. The findings of the study provide important information on unique contents and methods of assessment in Nordoff-Robbins music therapy. In addition, the findings promote deeper understandings of philosophical foundations of the approach.

본 연구의 목적은 노도프-로빈스 음악치료의 진단 세션인 인테이크의 고유한 본질이 무엇인가를 실체 적으로 탐구하는 것으로, 이를 위하여 현재 임상 현장에서 활동 중인 노도프-로빈스 음악치료사 7인의 인테이크 경험을 심층 면담을 통해 기록하고, 이를 Giorgi의 현상학적 방법론으로 분석하였다. 그 결 과, ‘노도프-로빈스 음악치료 인테이크의 목적’과 ‘노도프-로빈스 음악치료 인테이크를 위한 음악적 중 재’의 2개 구성 요소와 5개의 하위 구성 요소 및 19개의 의미 단위가 도출되었는데, 노도프-로빈스 음 악치료사들은 인테이크 세션을 통해 내담자의 음악아와 제한아를 발견하고, 이를 통해 치료적 목적과 목표를 설정하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 노도프-로빈스 음악치료사들은 인테이크 세션에서 내담자를 음 악 안으로 초대하고, 내담자와 음악적 관계를 형성하며, 내담자의 잠재성을 탐색하고자 하였다. 본 연 구의 결과는 노도프-로빈스 음악치료의 고유한 진단 방식과 내용에 대한 중요한 정보를 제공함과 동시 에 이 기법이 추구하는 치료 철학에 대한 이해를 심화할 것이란 점에서 의의를 가진다.
