This paper is a basic study for teaching and learning methods to develop citizens' abilities to live together, and aims to analyze the factors and relationships that positively affect democratic citizenship. In particular, I analyzed the direct and indirect effects of self-knowledge on democratic citizenship, and further analyzed the mediating effects of communication skills and cooperative learning. The result of the analysis showed that having a knowledge of oneself has a positive effect on democratic citizenship. However, it has a much greater effect when there is an increase in communication skills and intervention of cooperative learning. The fact that communication skills have a greater mediating effect compared to the educational method of cooperative learning implies that specific skills and attitudes in the educational activities are more important than simply making students share tasks in a shared space. These results would provide useful implications for developing educational programs to cultivate students' citizenship.

본고는 시민적 역량을 길러내는 도덕과 교수·학습 방법을 고안하기 위한 기초 연구로서, 특히 민주시민성에 정적 영향을 주는 요인들과 그 관계를 분석하고자 하였다. 특히 논쟁에서의 오만함을 줄이는 자기 이해의 중요성을 강조한 알렉산드라 타네시니(Alessandra Tanesini)의 논의를 따라 자기이해가 민주시민성에 미치는 직·간접효과를 분석하였 으며, 나아가 보다 효과적인 교수·학습 방법에의 함의를 얻기 위해 의 사소통 능력 및 협동학습의 매개효과 또한 분석하였다. 분석 결과 자 신에 대한 이해를 갖추는 것은 의사소통능력에 정적인 영향을 주었다. 그러나 자기이해는 의사소통능력의 신장과 협동 학습의 개입이 있을 때 훨씬 큰 효과를 발휘하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 자기이해나 협동학습 과 비교하여 의사소통능력이 민주시민성에 보다 큰 영향을 미친다는 발견은, 단순한 자기성찰이나 한 공간에서의 과제 공유가 아니라 활동 과정의 구체적인 소통의 기술이 더욱 중요하다는 것을 시사한다. 이와 같은 분석 결과는 이후 시민성 함양을 위한 교육개입을 고안할 때 유 용한 함의를 제공할 것이다.
