Many European countries have declared a 'multicultural failure'. his means that if we blindly follow European multiculturalism, we will suffer a "multicultural failure" just like them. What they call the failure of multiculturalism is the failure of social integration. What they call the failure of multiculturalism is the failure of social integration. In other words, if we do not have an alternative beyond Western multiculturalism, we will also have no choice but to face the serious cases of cultural conflict shown in their society. Now is the time to check the real problems that Korea has as a multicultural society. Therefore, in this study, the practical limitations of 'assimilationist multiculturalism' and 'liberal multiculturalism' adopted by our society are confirmed. And through the discussion that follows, it is confirmed that for a truly multicultural society, 'reciprocity' and 'equal interrelation' between cultures are necessary for 'intercultural communication'. As such, this study aims to suggest that a new moral principle is needed in the multicultural society, which has now become a reality, by pointing out the limitations of liberal multilateralism that our society has pursued so far and suggesting intercultural communication as an alternative.

많은 유럽의 국가들이 ‘다문화주의 실패’를 선언했다. 이 말은 우리 가 무작정 유럽적 다문화주의를 따라가기만 하면 그들과 똑같이 ‘다문 화주의 실패’를 겪게 된다는 것이다. 그들이 말하는 다문화주의 실패는 사회적 통합의 실패이다. 다시 말해, 우리가 서구의 다문화주의를 넘어 선 대안을 가지지 못한다면 우리 역시 그들의 사회에서 보여진 심각한 문화적 갈등 사례들을 마주할 수밖에 없게 된다는 것이기도 하다. 이 제는 한국사회가 가지는 다문화 사회로서의 현실적 문제 상황을 확인 할 필요가 있다. 그래서 본 연구는 우리 사회가 채택하고 있는 동화주의적 다문화주의와 자유주의적 다문화주의가 가진 현실적 한계를 확인 한다. 그리고 이어지는 논의를 통해, 진정한 다문화 사회를 위해서는 상호문화적 소통을 통한 문화 간의 ‘상호성’과 ‘동등한 상호관계’가 필요함을 확인한다.
