The purpose of this study is to analyze in detail the process of fusion and transformation of performance patterns according to the historical development of Hwagwanmu, designated as Hwanghae-do Intangible Cultural Heritage No.4. For this purpose, the historical characteristics of Hwagwanmu as a traditional dance are considered, and the process of settlement and stageization of the modern and contemporary period is analyzed, and the transmission and trans-formation of Hwagwanmu is presented. In addition, cultural background and artistic trends were identified based on historical historical analysis, and changes and fusion patterns of Hwagwanmu transmission process were specifically identified through an in-depth interview with Min Cheon-sik's direct disciple. In particular, from the period of the struggle against Japan to the present, it was a period of struggle against Japan in which the aspects of the court and the Confucianism were harmonized by concentrating on the modern and contemporary history of Hwagwanmu, from the completion of the form of the Hwagwanmu according to the Mincheon style, the process of settlement and stageization in South Korea, and the establishment of the transmission system by Kim Na-yeon. He understood the choreography of Min Cheon-sik and grasped the artistic value of the staging style through the application of dance movements and changes in music during the settlement of South Korea. Through this, first, the modern transmission process of Kim Na-yeon, who systematized the transmission through completion of the form of Hwagwanmu, is the core of the study, and the change and complementation points of the elements were newly identified. The range of variations of the performance style, which improved the artistry by applying the dance moves, was presented. Third, the history of the transmission of Hwagwanmu, which achieved artistic completion in a sophisticated style, was materialized by securing tradition and specificity based on the ideology of loyalty and respect, and complementing the dynamics of the dance moves. This study on the historical investigation and transmission of Hwagwanmu will contribute to enhancing the cultural and historical value of Hwanghae-do folk art by expanding the scope to folk art research based in North Korea.

본 연구의 목적은 황해도 무형문화재 제4호로 지정된 화관무의 역사적 전개에 따른 연희양상의 융합과 변용 과정을 구체적으로 분석하는 것이다. 이를 위해 전통춤으로서의 화관무의 역사성을 고찰하고 근현대 시기의 정착 및 무대 화 과정을 분석하여, 화관무의 전승과 변용 양상을 제시하였다. 아울러 사료(史料)분석을 토대로 문화적 배경과 예술 경향을 파악하였고, 민천식 직계제자와의 심층 면담을 통해 화관무 전승 과정의 변화와 융화양상을 구체적으로 파 악하였다. 특히 대일항쟁기에서 현재에 이르기까지 민천식에 의한 화관무의 형식완성과 남한정착 및 무대화 과정 그리고 김나연에 의한 전승체계 확립까지 화관무의 근현대사에 집중하여, 궁중과 교방의 양상이 융화된 대일항쟁기 민천식의 안무를 해득하고 남한 정착기 음악의 변화와 춤사위의 적용을 통한 무대화 양식의 예술적 가치를 파악하 였다. 이를 통해 첫째, 화관무의 형식완성을 거쳐 전승을 체계화한 김나연의 현대적 전승 과정이 연구의 핵심이며, 구성요소의 변화와 보완점을 새롭게 파악하였고 둘째, 현대적 감각과 무대화를 위한 음악 구성의 완성과 복합춤사 위의 적용으로 예술성을 높인 연희양상의 변용 범위를 제시하였다. 셋째, 충(忠)과 예(禮) 사상을 바탕으로 전통성과 특이성을 확보하고 춤사위의 역동성을 보완하여 세련된 양식으로 예술적 완성을 이루어 낸 화관무 전승의 역사를 구체화하였다. 화관무의 역사적 탐구와 전승 양상에 관한 본 연구는 향후 북한지역에 근거를 둔 민속예술연구로 범 위를 확장하여 황해도 민속예술의 문화사적 가치를 제고(提高)하는 데에 기여할 것으로 사료된다.
