In this paper, as a result of examining several existing versions of Jaemulbo 才物譜, it was revealed that it can be divided into two major categories in terms of the number of volumes and books: a ‘4-book edition’ and an ‘8-volume 8-book edition’. These two categories have a distinct difference in the name of the list at the beginning of the book. In the first (4-book edition), the order of the books is divided into ‘春, 夏, 秋, 冬’, like ‘才物譜春集目錄’. However, in the latter (8-volume edition), the order of the volumes is divided into ‘一∼八’ like ‘才物譜卷之一目錄’. In this paper, as a result of comparing the two categories with Mulmyeonggo 物名考, it was possible to objectively prove to some extent the following compilation order: Jaemulbo (4-book edition) > Jaemulbo (8-volume edition) > Mulmyeonggo. According to this conclusion, it seems that the following two points can be made clear compared to the previous discussions on the topic. First, in previous studies, it has been estimated that the copy stored in the National Library of Korea is, among the existing copies of Jaemulbo, the closest to the original copy, but this estimation should be revised. The time of transcription may be subsequent, but in the compilation order, the 4-book edition should be seen as preceding the 8-volume edition. Second, the close relationship between Jaemulbo(8-volume edition) and Mulmyeonggo is also objectively confirmed. In previous studies, Mulmyeonggo was considered a re-edited book based on the Jaemulbo, but this could be reconfirmed in this paper. However, it is necessary to note that such a characteristic can be established only on the premise of the 8-volume edition, not the 4-book edition.

본고는 현존하는 『才物譜』 이본을 검토한 결과 卷冊의 형태상 크게 ‘不分卷 4책본’과 ‘8권본’ 두 계열로 나누어 볼 수 있음을 밝혔다. 이들 두 계열은 책머리에 실린 目錄名에서 뚜렷한 차이를 보이는데 ‘不分卷 4책본’ 계열에서는 ‘才物譜春集目錄’과 같이 冊次를 ‘春, 夏, 秋, 冬’으로 구분한 목록명이 쓰이지만, ‘8권본’ 계열에서는 ‘才物譜卷之一目錄’과 같이 卷次를 ‘一∼八’로 구분한 목록명이 쓰였다. 본고에서는 두 이본 계열을 『물명고』와 비교한 결과, 편찬 순서상 ‘『재물보』(4책본) > 『재물보』(8권본) > 『물명고』’의 선후 관계가 성립하는 것을 어느 정도 객관적으로 입증할 수 있었다. 이러한 결론에 따르면 기존 논의와 비교할 때 다음 두 가지 점을 분명히 할 수 있을 것으로 보인다. 첫째, 기존 연구에서는 현존하는 『재물보』 이본 가운데 국립도서관본을 原撰本에 가장 가까운 것으로 추정해 왔으나(金根洙 1980: ⅶ) 이는 수정되지 않을 수 없다. 필사(=전사) 시기는 늦을 수 있으나 편찬상으로는 4책본 계열이 8권본 계열보다 앞선다고 보아야 할 것이다. 둘째, 『재물보』(8권본)와 『물명고』의 밀접한 관계도 구체적으로 확인된다. 기존 연구에서는 『재물보』를 『물명고』의 ‘대본’(전광현 2000: 49)으로 이해하기도 했는데 본고에서 이를 재확인할 수 있었다. 그러나 그 ‘대본’ 관계는 어디까지나 4책본이 아니라 8권본을 전제로 해야 성립할 수 있는 것임을 유의해야 할 것이다.
