This study examined the path of Korean Chinese studies 30 years after diplomatic relations between Korea and China and analyzed what academic and policy levels can play a role in the current worsening relationship between Korea and China. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that Korean research on China tends to jump on the bandwagon and become popular rather than stable and balanced research, which is linked to changes in Korea-China relations and further correlates with changes in the general public’s perception of China. For the development of Chinese studies, first, it is necessary to strengthen the stability and sustainability of academic research, focus on fostering subsequent generations and securing the diversity of research topics, second, expand exchanges with China, finding ways to reduce the gap in perception through academic ties, and third, I argued that active social participation in academia is important so that the general public can accurately recognize China.

본 연구는 한중 수교 30주년을 맞이해 한국의 중국학 연구가 걸어온 길을 톺아보고 현재의 악화하고 있는 한중관계를 위해 어떤 학술적, 정책적 차원에서 역할을 할 수 있는지 분석하였다. 연구 결과 한국의 중국 관련 연구는 안정적이고 균형적인 연구가 확립되었기보다 시류에 편승하고 인기영합적 연구 경향이 있고, 이는 한중관계의 변 화와도 연동되어 있으며, 더 나아가 일반 대중의 중국에 대한 인식 변화와도 상관성이 있음을 확인하였다. 중국학의 발전을 위해서는 첫째, 학문 연구의 안정성과 지속성의 강화가 필요하며 이를 위해 후속세대 양성과 연구주제 다양성 확보에 관심을 기울일 필요가 있고, 둘째, 상호 인식 개선을 위해 중국과의 교류를 확대하고, 학술적 유대관 계를 통해 인식의 격차를 줄일 수 있는 방법을 찾아야 하며, 셋째, 일반 대중이 중국에 대해 정확히 인식할 수 있도록 학계의 적극적인 사회참여와 활동의 필요성을 주장하였다.
